Thread resurrection time ! just jet washed the chassis on my 90 - looking for products to treat the chassis with now I have some time on my hands! (and no money) - the chassis has surface rust/pitting and the rear crossmember has been replaced some years ago, but overall its pretty solid. Also...

So the one in the picture is the extended hood for roll bar? I have come across allwheeltrim in my searches as well - the issue I have is that I want to strap long lengths of wood on the roof/bars or whatever, the only way I can think is fit a hardtop and roof rack/bars - or build some frame...

Cool I have been Looking at them, they look really strong - is it a standard cab hood you have there?

seems like the water is going round the rad so I’m guessing it’s the sender thingy or a dodgy connection. Took it with a tipper trailer up some pretty steep hills today though and was fine. Tows nice !

If the thermostat was stuck would it not show overheating on the guage which was previously working -I’ve only driven it 10 miles or so and was fine (I think) heater working etc

Cool will have a look when I have some spare time (never!) the gauge is dead as a dodo no movement at all

Not sure but Its a defender 200tdi engine which has gone in to replace the 19J - I'm sure its something simple

That set up looks pretty good - is it the heavy duty hood sticks from purely metal ?

UPDATE - picked it up this afternoon, starts when you turn the key, can change up the gears when going up hills !! does not smell anywhere near as poisonous...Will be towing with it tomorrow so that will be a good test. Temp gauge not working for some reason. Will add some pics soon.

cool - have been looking at soft top options but realistically it will just be even more noisy, leaky and cold ! My main objective is to be able to carry long bits of wood on the roof

After this engine swap I will work on it myself as I’ll have no money ! Planning on changing to van from pick up next...I’ll definitely do that myself

err... run that by me again! I have a 1989 Model 90 Farmer condition (every panel dented) if I could sell that for 10k it’s getting exported Haha

No plans on moving to America.... do people buy these things to export ?! The 19j to be fair has been reliable, although I don’t rely on the landy as we have another work truck, it’s a bit gutless for hills and towing, but always (eventually) starts - then it runs/starts nicely after the first...

I am leaving it the hands of professional mechanics as well, that will make a big difference!

I am guessing “top drive” is suggesting I get my tool kit out and refurbish the engine that’s in the vehicle. This would make even less financial sense as It would take weeks of my time and then not get finished.

Newsflash - Buying an old defender makes no financial sense!
