Starter motor wont come out - time for a V8

I have a 3.9efi disco engine in my fender (to sneak it round the LEZ). Once i got it running properly it's been amazing. I matched it to an LT85 with a disco transfer box, which makes it brilliant on the highways, and on lpg it's really quite frugal. Through a special exhaust it really sounds...

    knackered flywheel? odd noise...

Hi all, Weird one this: when i start my 3.9v8 110 there is a horrid kind of dry grindy noise for about a second, then it stops. Noise happens when the truck has started, not when it's trying to start. The nose is coming from the front of the gearbox/back of the engine, hence me wondering...

Advice needed, v8 got a bit toasty

Very paranoid. It had only been running properly for about a month.... The vehicle has gone from being my baby to my temperamental teenager....

Advice needed, v8 got a bit toasty

Hi all, Need a little advice, apologies for the long story! Yesterday I took part on a land rover experience adventure drive at Eastnor as part of the lr show there. The experience was amazing, although it was by a long way the most challenging off roading I've driven yet (out of 10 vehicles...

    VERY clunky transfer box

The springs themselves are no higher than the old ones (i've got a picture somewhere), but the old ones were really worn and couldn't cope with the weight I have in the back. So.it's no higher than standard, but 2" higher than it used to be. (i parked next to a standard ex-mod 110 on normal...

    VERY clunky transfer box

I did also have another thought: I recently put new springs on the back as the old ones were knackered! I went for hd heavy load springs as this summer I'm going to be doing a reasonable amount of towing and carrying heavy things. The springs aren't lifted, but do make it sit about 2" higher...

    VERY clunky transfer box

Tool your advice- the noise/ vibration is still there without the front prop. Took the sump off the t-box: end float Seems to be ok (but I'm very new to this!), but there does seem to be a lot of rotational play on the output shaft gears- i can rotate the props a good 2mm before it takes up...

    Brilliant, thank you!

    VERY clunky transfer box

Hi all, Well, my drivetrain issues continue. I've got quite a lot of play in my drivetrain, which I can live with. However, what is more worrying is that when I back off the throttle above 50mph (when the drivetrain goes slack), there is a grumbly knocking noise coming from beneath my feet...

Which resistor for Temp gauge sender

Cheers all- Got a bag of potentiometers from Maplins, I think the one i fitted was 300k ohms. Anyway, ran the engine up to temperature, fitted the potentiometer in the instrument binnacle and adjusted it so the gauge reads in the middle. Glued the potentiometer and checked it. working perfectly...

Which resistor for Temp gauge sender

Hi all, Bit of a tricky one that i haven't het found an answer for- hopefully you geniuses can help. I'm running a 3.9v8 from a disco in my Defender, which has a standard 200tdi temp gauge. The Temp sender on the V8 isn't compatible with the 200tdi gauge, and it reads off the scale too...

    Do i have a knackered T-Box?

Hi all- quick update. I've replace drive flanges and the slack has gone by 50%, which is great. Also found a little play in the props, so i've applied grease liberally, which seems to have helped too. I've inspected the Transfer box gear and can find only the tiniest amount of play (0.5mm), so...

    Do i have a knackered T-Box?

Right, had a quick look at the drive flanges before I go to work (haven't had time this morning to do anything major), and the rears seem very worn- nearside is getting on for being smooth! So i figure that's a first port of call. I'll inspect the transfer box as soon as I get a spare hour too...

    Do i have a knackered T-Box?

Cool. I'll try and confirm the problem and get back to you. If its not cross drilled already (I'm fairly sure on this), I'll probably take it off your hands anyway.

    Do i have a knackered T-Box?

I've heard that one before! ;-) I'll try and confirm, and check the box's serial number to make sure it'll fit. How much are you looking for it?
