    Flat Bed Disco 2 Project

Baptism of fire today. First time off road. Performed really well. That's not me on the back. One of the club members fancied a ride.

I've started adding stuff that I want now, starting with a roof rack. This rack was actually on the Disco when I bought it but it was put on my daily as that didn't have one. The PO hacked it about a bit to put a roof tent on it so the tubular side rail was short on one side where it had been...

    Bankz's Discovery 2!

Black for the arches.. Body colour wouldn't look right, especially with all the other black bits you already have.

Good work. Very small list of minors for an old Disco.

So, now it's had a proper drive there are a couple of small problems that need sorting: 1. Fuel gauge isn't working. Found that out after I filled up. Still showing empty with fuel light on. 2. Steering bar needs slight adjustment so the steering wheel sits straight. It's ever so slightly right...

No pictures, just good news. MOT passed today!! Had my first "that's cool as feck" comment today while filling up at the MOT station too. Woohoo! I'm pleased as punch. Mind, as with all projects like this, it's never really going to be finished. Got loads more planned for it.

I had the same problem with mine. Fitted brand new hubs and one of them turned out to be faulty, it wasn't the sensor. Went through three brand new sensors before replacing hub/sensor. Problem solved.

Hmm, quite overpaid for my replacement pair I think. Never mind, it's done now. As for the brackets, with rivets and bonding they're as solid as a rock. Or were, the replacements were in excellent condition with all fixings intact. I'll keep the old pair as poor spares.

Hey Dave, I was wondering where you'd gone. Welcome back and thanks for the positive comments. If you don't mind me asking, assuming you have already got facelift headlights, where did you source them and did you have to pay a ridiculous price?

ABS light usually stays on after clearing the codes until you drive it. Should turn off after seeing good readings from the sensors.

I've read the MOT manual regarding lights and I'm confident my lights are fine but I'm going to fit extra reflectors anyway in the interests of safety.

Just a little update. The new hydraulic ram I ordered for the step arrived today so I fitted the step. Quite pleased with how this has turned out. The action is very smooth. Looks like it could have been an option.

D2 traction Control kicks in after Diff Swap.

If the diffs had different ratios you'd know it pretty soon as the drive train would wind up and something would go bang. If you've driven it any distance with no mechanical issues then they're more than likely the same. As for the TC, do you still have the old axle? Maybe just swap the hubs...

I looked at the light clusters and they seem to have a red reflective strip alongside the indicators. However, mine are positioned horizontally which means these strips are angled down towards the floor and may not reflect light coming in from headlights behind very well. So I've ordered a pair...

Are you getting ABS, hill descent and TC lights on the dash? You really need to do a code read to determine which sensors are at fault. This won't be diagnosed in the MOT, they'll just fail it for having the lights on.

Not sure. This is a full set of normal Disco rear lights so I think part of the clusters (the ones that would normally be vertical) have them. Easy enough to check. Is it an MOT requirement?

The Disco is finally MOT ready! Booked in for Thursday 23rd June. Since the last update I have: Fitted the A and B pillar trims. Fitted another new hub and sensor on the rear drivers side. I was having loads of trouble with fault codes and went through two more sensors before buying a...

Disco 2 Nanocom fault codes for wheel sensors.

Just a quick update to tidy this subject up nicely. I've dragged myself into the 21st century and bought a multimeter. Just a cheap one but should do me for the basics. Changed the hub for a new one complete with new sensor and no more fault codes.
