Yes, but they weren't made in China!

    Disco 2 Electrical guru please?

Thanks for all of the options everyone. I think the Pi interrogating the ECU is way more complex than I need - although I admit that having an air op diff is more complex than necessary anyway. However, if you could do this, you could easily have an auto locking diff if the ECU can tell you...

That's not a bad idea. I could fit a micro switch on the low range position.

    Disco 2 Electrical guru please?

Thanks for your input Discool, but I'm trying to prevent the switch being activated by accident when travelling on the road at speed.

    Disco 2 Electrical guru please?

It was just that I thought to place the switch next to the window controls but that location is a bit exposed to water bottles, stray hands, dog paws etc. If I place it on the dash out of the way, it would not be so easy to engage going over rough ground. Of course, it would be easier just to...

    Disco 2 Electrical guru please?

Is there any way to detect when a Disco 2 manual is travelling slow enough to engage difflock? (<40mph) I was thinking of a project to have difflock engaged by an air cylinder and a switch in the cabin. The trouble is, I can't afford to accidentally engage the difflock when travelling at higher...

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

This is now fixed! It was the injector seals. Actually, I had not torqued the injectors correctly which resulted in poor sealing and a build up of pressure in the fuel rail. With new seals and correctly torqued to 33NM, it's now running well. Thanks to everyone for their input.

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

Well I changed the CPS today and it's made no difference, it still idles for about 20 mins before dying. My next theory is the injector seals. They were all replaced when I built the engine up but I find that the fuel pump gets noisier just before the engine dies, like its struggling to pump...

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

Yes, I have the bits so I'll swap the sensor tomorrow - and check the wiring.

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

Oh yes, of course. I've only just seen that the videos are there. They didn't show up before. It's a good point about the crank sensor. This is the one on the bell housing right? As I put the engine back in I could well have hit it with the flywheel. I had figured that if the car runs then I...

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

It would be good to have a pressure guage to measure the high pressure line. That chart says 1750 bar, I'm not sure if find a guage to measure that high though.

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

Today I swapped the fuel pump from another car. It's still noisy and possibly older that the one I took off but I got the same symptoms - runs at tick over for 20 mins then dies. I think the next job is to take the fuel reg. block off and swap the reg. itself. This reg. & block came straight...

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

I don't have a guage to check pressure so I'm going to start swapping bits until I fix it.

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

I did forget to connect one of the fuel lines in the beginning and fuel pi**ed out when I turned the key. I'd say that flow was good but can't say how much pressure there was. It could be that there's not enough pressure from the pump despite what looks like a heavy flow. What would be the...

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

Griff: I reused my injectors from the old head moving them one at a time and double checking the codes after so they're good.

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

Neilly: I have two other Discos from which I can swap parts but I hear that fuel pumps change from one model to another. I have Y reg which may be close enough to my 53 plate so I'll give this a go. It would seem odd that the pump suddenly decides to give up but maybe pushing air around the...

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

I made a note of which went where before taking them off so they're in the right place - unless I messed up my notes. Looking from the front, my left fuel line coming from the tank goes to the bottom of the fuel cooler (Eu3 type). The right line goes to the top of the fuel reg. and the bottom...

*Fixed!* Hard to start Disco after major work

I have changed the TD5 engine in my D2 and I'm having a hell of a job getting it to start and run reliably. I reconditioned the head and replaced all gaskets and O rings for the fuel lines around the head. I also changed the fuel filter at the same time and no, I didn't fill it with diesel...

    Man gearbox input shaft play

I have read one of your posts before about the end float being the only problem to watch so I'll refit what I have. End float is ok. But, what is inside the box that allows the shaft to move side to side so much? Surely something is wearing out if the side play goes from whatever it is in the...

    Man gearbox input shaft play

Hi, Can I get some opinions from gearbox gurus about how much side to side play on the input shaft is acceptable please? Box is an R380 on a Disco 2.
