Disco 2 Steering knuckle ball joints

I replaced both sides (upper and lower) but gave in and had the local garage so it for me and I’m glad they did. 2 days with an oxy acetylene torch and some serious tools to get them out - but it’s made a huge difference so worth doing. Good luck with it!

New front shocks fitted - had a bit of a result in that I managed to replace them without taking the shock turrets off! The hd turrets have enough space to get the shock through - a very good thing as the turrets are a pig to get in and out!

Got fed up of breaking and buying filler cap catches so modified it slightly with a 10mm long, 2mm bolt works a treat and cost about 5p

Removed the bumper - fitting paused while I clean more mud off it! Bumper, steering guard and new steering bars at the ready

It turned out to be the inside wheel arch/body making contact and rubbing on the HD shock turrets. Dremmel and cutting disc and a bit of minor trimming and it’s all good again!!

Heat shield isn’t a bad shout, haven’t checked that - will do when it stops raining tinny sound, like a chink of keys (isn’t that btw!)

Sealant liberally applied to rear sunroof and all leaks sorted! Now to find the nasty metallic clinking noise that is coming from the front suspension on small bumps - it’s not ARB, shocks, springs, turrets, drop links or steering bars. Annoying me now!

I’ve sorted the front sunroof shortly after getting the truck and that’s been perfect ever since. But I don’t really need the rear so sealing it up is the way forward for me I think!

It’s amazing stuff. Far better than the silicone that I used around the rear sunroof that failed spectacularly today!! Need the rain to stop so i can get the silicone gun out again - I don’t have the energy to remove the lining and sunroof and fix it properly

    Who's in 'Ampshire then?

Wasn’t aware of it but will definitely have a look as it’s only half an hour up the road

    Disco 2 clunking steering rods!

Thanks @JUKE179r - I was heading towards those so good to get a second opinion

    Disco 2 clunking steering rods!

not sure if i'm overthinking/worrying about this but after a reasonable off-road day I've developed a clunk on steering - usually full articulation but things dont feel as stable as they used to (and metalic tinkling noise when going over bumps but thats something else to chase down!) I've put...

Finally got around to adding a shiny bit! At least there is something clean on the truck now

    Other Discovery projects

A few bits planned; Fitting 30mm spacers (nice easy one!) Fit new front bumper when it finally arrives ( then try not to impulse buy a winch!) Wire in my front spot/led’s that have been fitted under my roof rack for months but not connected! Fit new sump gasket and auto transmission filter and...

I found that I needed a few applications to seal completely. Pour, let dry and repeat a few times. Brilliant stuff!

Got a bit more “off road” than planned - now have an engine bay full of muddy water and an air box full of the same!! Might be time for that snorkel :D

:) Well one way or the other one of us is on the right track!! I’ve spent too long under the wheel arches this week looking at the bloody front suspension - the HD shock turrets are a PIG to fit vs the original ones!!
