The Di you refer to is the L-series engine and its bomb proof, in what respect is it awful? Think you might be getting mixed up with the K1.8, now that is awful (engine wise!!!) Id have an L Series over a TD4 anyday, dont want anything BMW under my bonnet!!!

    Tranmittion problems

You wont have a problem with Bell Engineering, I got a Viscous from them last novemeber. I live local so drove there with the complete propshaft shoved in the boot/back of the car. The chap at Bell Engineering removed the old viscous and put the new one on for me and then put the prop back...

I have heard the complete dash has to be removed so job for the weekend me thinks, suppose better happening now than in...

    L Series Vibration/Booming

Well not tried a compression test to be honest, if low on compression would have thought I would get some loss of power or poor running which I dont, but suppose its worth a go as I would rule nothing out now!

    L Series Vibration/Booming

I really dont no mate, its all beyond me now, it really is! I did get a brand new pipe that runs from the intercooler to the intake manifold as it was only £20. Disconnected the old pipe and took her for a spin to make sure and no issue, put the new pipe on bang problem reappears so it aint...

    L Series Vibration/Booming

I would agree about the characteristic, but I drove my mates L Series Freelander and his does not do it, if this was a characteristic I am sure LR would have had hundreds of buys backs and put some sort of bulletin out on how to fix it.

    L Series Vibration/Booming

I have stopped working on it now to be honest, after everything thats been done on it, I will propably just get rid and get a another Japanese motor as never had any problems with them, thought i would try a British brand but just too many problems unfortunately. I have also just looked at...

    L Series Vibration/Booming

completely removed the air box and resonator in the inner wing just to rule them out, problem still there! There is a cure, remove the pipe that goes on the intake manifold and just hope it dont suck any crap into the intake!!!! As I said earlier when I remove this pipe the problem goes, only...

    L Series Vibration/Booming

A few months ago I posted with a booming/vibration I get from my L Series freelander between 1700-2000rpm in 4th gear and at about 1500-1750rpm in 5th gear under full load, cant get it to happen in any other gear at any other rpm. It does not occur whilst in natural or stationery. When the...

    IRD Ratio's

what are the last digits of the vin number?
  17. T

    IRD Ratio's

The viscous must be a poor design if it cant cope with less than a 1% difference. Might have to get the early IRD as its the cheapest option and I have not got hundreds of pounds to spare at the moment. If I do get the early IRD then I will just run the car without the propshaft, no VCU fitted...

    IRD Ratio's

I have heard that IRD's are different in terms of ratio's, I believe the early vehicle's (up to 2001MY) have a drive difference (front to rear axles) of 0.8% but the later IRD's fitted from 2001MY onwards the ratio is much less, something like 0.2%. Reason I am asking is because I have the...

    L Series Vibration/Booming

No update as yet, might never have an update if all I am left with is the IRD/gearbox as I will just live with it as the cost of a new IRD or gearbox is way too much. Anyway will be the weekend before I get to look at it again. I have got quite accustomed to the boom now to be honest, the car...

    L Series Vibration/Booming

No worries, the way I look at it is that is one more component out of the way that is not at fault and now I have spare driveshafts. The problem is there in all gears, but its more prominent in 4th-5th but it is there in 1st/2nd/3rd. I am not going to get downbeat about it as that will...
