    Oil Sump gasket / sealing

Evening All - Quick question for you... took my sump off today for the first time after 10years and given it a good clean. Before I go to refit it, can I ask what's the latest thinking on sealing it up? PO must have used endless amounts of various seals, silicone and rubber judging by the crud...

Any advice appreciated EX MOD tax/mot exemption

Mines not exMOD and built only a couple of years before registration but I did as suggested and got a heritage certificate to prove the year of build. Then called the dvla who asked me to send in the certificate, log book and cover letter asking for historic status. I did and about a month or so...

    Reversing light on '75 SWB

My s3 109 has the same - a pull switch fitted where this thread suggests a ‘proper’ one should go and (I think…) original - i had the same problem as with your Renault. A flat battery later I wired in a simple lights-on buzzer to it so now it buzzes when on to remind me as a tell light under...

Series 3 heater hose connection to back of the engine

Mines a petrol but I used a plumbing fitting temporarily until I could get the adapter delivered and it worked fine - see this thread for details / pic https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/any-ideas-snapped-heater-hose-adaptor-solved.369627/#post-5129616

Series 3 Signs of worn distributor?

Hi - welcome! You’ll have many years of fun trying to get the timing set up to its best on your landy. It’s a great place to start to get to know your engine as I discovered when I got mine. There is almost an endless list of variables that interact to produce effects you mention and there is a...

    Oil and filter recommendations please…

In case it helps, here’s the relevant page from my original series 3 owners manual if you can read it… …for what it’s worth I’ve always put in the cheapest I can get and change it regularly (what hasn’t leaked out anyway )

    Fitting Leaf Springs.

When I did mine I found this guide useful ( tho it may be different when not replacing with weight on the chassis- certainly to set the springs at the end of it I needed to load everything I owned in the back of the truck to get the height right before tightening the shackle bolts) But take a...

    Fitting leafs

Looks like you’ve not quite lined them up right - it’s a right faff involving wiggling axle to get the plate to sit down properly before tightening the shackle. That centre nut needs to be dead centre in the hole when it’s right. A few mm makes the difference I found when I did mine a couple...

    Series 2a Wheel Nuts

Check the inside diameters - if they are the same then just means someone has replaced a few with smaller nuts and no big deal, just stick a full set of proper ones on. If they are different then someone’s messed with the retaining bolts which will mean the whole wheel unit needs a good look at.

    Distributer 2.5 Petrol

I got my electronic dizzy from here for my s3 2.25 and it’s been great... https://simonbbc.com/lucas-25d-type-distributor/ simple direct drop in replacement that saved loads of hassle dealing with points. You might also need a new coil tho depending on state of yours.

Series 3 Brake fail - update

Update: I saw in the workshop manual that it suggested testing the m/c by clamping the brake hoses. So i clamped front and rear and tried the peddle expecting it to hit the floor as before. Lo and behold it was firm as a rock and hardly moved at all. Pointing, despite my initial thoughts, to an...

    What fills this hole?

You’re right - it’s the flywheel drain hole. Plug is optional according to the manual I have. See attachment. I haven’t got one fitted and all’s been well for ever

Series 3 Brake fail - update

Think I’ll have to but the dual line ones are closer to £50 sadly and until I can unstick my bleed nipple I can’t replace the m/c anyway as I won’t be able to bleed it clear afterward. Unless anyone knows a way to replace the m/c without getting air in?? If I end up needIng to put in a new rear...

Series 3 Brake fail - update

Have checked the shoes and they are all good. Can’t get any pressure no matter how much pumping engine off or on. Can’t see any black stuff in reservoir and liquid looks a little murky but nothing I wouldn’t expect from oldish fluid (Was due to change it in next couple of months). Pressing...

Series 3 Brake fail - update

There’s really no pumping to be done. When I press it it now moves prettt much straight to the floor tho if I hold it there and start the engine it does sink an extra bit but only about a centimetre... It wasn’t as bad yesterday but on repeated pressing and adjusting shoes to see if I could...

Series 3 Brake fail - update

Folks - would I be right in assuming that if the brake pedal now travels to the floor with almost no braking action apparent but there is no fluid loss anywhere, reservoir full, no bulging pipes that means my master cylinder has gone?? Servo assisted dual line system. No brake work been done...

    Grease / Oil or Both

I have found that the mpg does increase slightly with them off - enough to make a difference on my daily drive with fuel the price it is today so I only engage them when needed or for lubrication.
