Help - Gear box oil filler plug rounded off

Thanks for that - not sure we are brave enough for the aggro..... Fingers crossed we can get a Torx bolt banged in to do the trick. I have a replacement plug coming. If all else fails we are going to tip landy sideways so we can get some in via the drain plug

Help - Gear box oil filler plug rounded off

Yes this is what I was wondering - I took the covering off the small gear selector (diff lock engagement/low high gear) but couldn’t tell if there was a direct route to the main gear box. This would certainly be the simplest

Help - Gear box oil filler plug rounded off

Thanks - will give that a shot. Annoying thing is we had the clutch replaced 2 weeks ago….

Help - Gear box oil filler plug rounded off

Where’s the level plug? Isn’t that the filler plug which we can’t get out?

Help - Gear box oil filler plug rounded off

Our '96 300 TDI has been decidedly noisier in the gear changing dept. On Tuesday I was towing a trailer and going uphill in 3rd and there was a definite change in sound (more high pitched). Anyhoo we figured it was probably a good point to check on the gearbox oil level. Today removed the drain...

Temp gauge doing weird and wonderful things......

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it was an intermittent earth issue. When we were sorting out the lights on the light panel I had noticed that the bracket holding the temp gauge in place was loose and the gauge was rotating. I didn't sort that out at the time, but this morning had a proper...

Temp gauge doing weird and wonderful things......

Afternoon All - our '96 300TDI 90 has decided to pose a challenge for us..... Temp gauge is doing weird things - normally rock solid, takes about 5' running to get to normal running temp (showing about 2/3rds up on gauge) then stays there all solid. However - the last few journeys the temp...

Engine running on after key off/fuel pump electrical feed taken away

Our problem has finally been solved. Took a couple of to's and fro's. 1st the shape of the solenoid plunger was changed - but this didn't solve the problem. Once the engine was up and running at temperature (say 15') the 'run on' was still very much in evidence. So, the next step was to replace...

Engine running on after key off/fuel pump electrical feed taken away

Today's update - checked for the possible 'runaway engine signs' all good so TYVM Our mechanic who fitted the solenoid spoke to the solenoid supplier - apparently there was a design change in the solenoid because the old round design was found to be leaky.... The supplier said that our mechanic...

Engine running on after key off/fuel pump electrical feed taken away

Sorry - what is IC? The intercooler? What do you mean by a runaway? As you can tell I'm not exactly an expert.....!

Engine running on after key off/fuel pump electrical feed taken away

That is what we found curious - there was no issue after the refurb of the injector pump with the old (leaking) solenoid, only started with the new solenoid.

Engine running on after key off/fuel pump electrical feed taken away

Would this correspond with the fact that it happens the longer the engine has been running/hotter the engine is?

Engine running on after key off/fuel pump electrical feed taken away

We've just had some stuff done on our '96 300TDI Defender - very long story but basically the most recent issue that has reared its head is the engine runs on after the ignition is turned off. If switched on from cold, then turned off immediately, no run on. If we go for a journey, say 20', then...

MOT fail on the day they stopped making the Defender

Yep it was the spring that caused a lot of the grief - it was lopsided so made an even compression pretty difficult to master. However we did it in the end :) Thanks for the offer Turboman :)

MOT fail on the day they stopped making the Defender

My 90 had its MOT test yesterday - and failed :( Only on one point - the steering box end ball joint on the drag link arm. Garage man said I could get the replacement from LRP in Camborne then it would 'just' be a case of dropping out the old one and fitting the new one. To be fair he did say it...

So my Landy has developed a bit of a whirring/rattling noise.....

Ok so we ended up replacing both front shocks as one was completely kaput. We ended up welding washers into the axle brackets as both original holes had been eroded and elongated meaning there could be lateral play. This was all a few weeks ago now but post work evaluations got somewhat...

So my Landy has developed a bit of a whirring/rattling noise.....

Thanks for the input so far :) We had a bit of a rootle around under the Landy yesterday - gave the UJ's a good look at, push and wriggle - nothing to particularly get excited about so we greased 'em up. We did notice that one of the rubber mounting pads by the gear box had completely lost the...

So my Landy has developed a bit of a whirring/rattling noise.....

Landy 90, 1996 300TDi Over the last few weeks I have become increasingly aware of an intermittent rattle/jingle/grinding noise. Essentially all is fine when the engine is under drive, but if we go done hill using engine braking and the vehicle is running 'ahead' of the engine braking there is a...
