P38 Diesel. What engine temperature is normal?

cheers Mark, DubbleRR , good morning to you both. So I did some reading besides, and it seems the the engine can safely reach 110° C, and after that the water is going to boil. Mark did you change your thermostat when you changed the fan On temp, or is that not necessary? Fascinating really...

P38 Diesel. What engine temperature is normal?

Millions of years later, I spotted this thread. I'm getting temps between 88 and 92, it has gone up to 100 I think, driving up this mountain I have no idea what's a dangerous temperature for this engine, does anyone know? I have my electric fan kicking on at 92 degrees C, and I feel like I...

P38A autobox not getting throttle position signal

What happened to Wammers? Yes I think you are right, I do know that the accelerator pedal (throttle position sensor) routes directly to the EDC ECU. I will fire up the nanocom and see can I get a reading in the BECM anywhere. Also I might message Marty. I never managed to install rave, I...

P38A autobox not getting throttle position signal

Hi Ratae, the Outside Air Temperature Sensor located by the engine radiator is out of action, I don't think there are any adverse effects from that.

P38A autobox not getting throttle position signal

Morning Grrrrrr ) Yes indeed the EDC ecu does get a signal, you can see the value change in the pic below. Throttle voltage and throttle position Which leads me to think I could tap that line if I ran out of ideas. Speaking of ideas I actually have a compushift that I bought for the M57...

P38A autobox not getting throttle position signal

I am not sure how to read the pinouts. I am not great with wiring. Below is the 'Instruments' readout on the nanocom. I think this readout comes from the BECM ? If that is the case, the BECM can see the throttle position.

P38A autobox not getting throttle position signal

hello to all. My 2001 diesel has an errorcode, see below regardless of load, the value never changes from 29.7 So im trying to figure out why. I have been looking at the BECM pinouts, this is the connector that goes to the autobox (I think) but its not clear to me which wire provides the...

    My latest terrible idea

I see, I see. Yeah not promoting the look of that L322 copy, just pointing out that the vent could be useful in this circumstance. Went out and bought flap discs for my grinder, and stone chip to spray the chimney cover. Hoping to wrap up this section of the project tomorrow.

    My latest terrible idea

youve lost me with the bird references. Gold Rover I did call the thread 'my latest terrible idea', so I'm not claiming its logical. Lol. I did actually live in a Nissan Serena for 6 months, backpacking in NZ. I reckon that and the Range are pretty close, spacewise.

    My latest terrible idea

Grrr I'm from way south (Tipperary) so not on that road often. I reckon it would be bad economically for both countries if there were tariffs between us, I buy so much stuff from the UK, its a bigger market with more stuff available. I'm glad that didn't happen. Back out now to struggle with...

    My latest terrible idea

Guys about the exhaust, Ive been absorbing the John McK 47 channel on youtube and also the David McLuckie videos, the most important images for me were these by McLuckie, really handy. The image above is from David McLuckie. I think my exhaust chimney is direct enough, without too many...

    My latest terrible idea

Norseman hi, yeah, oh i forgot to mention I bought a sound deadening and insulation kit for the Blue P38, this thing is going to be toasty! Im going to heavily line the roof and the floor with new insulation. But no it doesnt stop there, im lining the inside in sheepskin also. I spent 200 on...

    My latest terrible idea

Cheers bud ) yes takes conviction to cut up something that's perfect with an grinder grinder. It's not easy! I dad to cut that fuel hatch though. I'm so glad I did. In other news: I bought the crank position sensor, but didn't fit it yet. Will do that as soon as I get the wheel arch patched...

    My latest terrible idea

Hi Lynall ) The green fuel line came with the heater. You are listening to the video and remarking that it sounds like there may still be air in the system - i think - first off thanks! I need all the help I can get. Secondly, thats okay, it was test run to get the chimney as hot as...

    My latest terrible idea

Hi Mark, the swap stalled, I spent a LOT of money buying the parts, and then I realised the red P38 was a can of worms, a nightmare, so I bought a different P38, blue, and this time I got it right. The M51 engine in the blue P38 is positively youthful - which is why I'm adding the filters - to...

    My latest terrible idea

I managed to spend all 2 weeks of my holidays installing a diesel heater into the engine bay. It isnt finished yet. It's taking me much time to make the installation safe. Please don't come at me like its unsafe, I just wasted a month of my life trying to make it safe. Ive hacked away must of...

P38 Diesel ecu - control unit internal fault

I smeared the hole and the sensor in oil and wriggled it back in with the vice grips. It did not fix the over-rev issue. The sensor I fitted was from my spares car. I'll buy a new sensor and fit that.
