MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

I've only been using them for less than a year, but so far they are ok! I use a small gas torch to heat the solder and shrink the tube (& glue) and it did take a few goes to get it just so... Before that I was soldering wires and using heat shrink to seal a join. These have surely cut repair...

    P38 eas question

When I had my leak, I serviced the valve block too. My leak was caused by a hole in the exhaust back box which melted a pipe to the air storage tank. Anyway, there is potential for leakage from any of the pipe joints, but also the EAS Valve Block "O" rings and valves as the "O" rings can dry up...

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

Got the codes read again and it showed I still have a MAF fault, but it was joined by a TPS fault (which explained the inability to run above idle). Caused by a broken wire at the plug of all things o_O Bloody cowboys  The scum from Stirling who installed the LPG system back in the day...

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

That may be a possibility as I used the radio for ages as I was taking the car apart & I also used my portable compressor to lift the whole car (I don't like leaving it parked with no air in the suspension) which may have drained the battery a bit. But I've never experienced this in the past...

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

Seems the car didn't like being fixed! Started up and immediately knew it wasn't happy. Normally fires up to around 900rpm then in no time settles to 750rpm. However, it revved up to around 1200rpm then started hunting up and down then after around 15 seconds settled down to around 850rpm...

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

Thank you for all the replies. Yes it's the main ECU, but it lives behind my cruise control module o_O The box behind my battery is empty... Anyhoo, the green is dry and has been for a while. But I suspect it is the culprit as everything else is fine. So today, I'll mostly be taping up a...

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

This evening, I decided to trace the MAF wiring back to the ECU, in case there was a short circuit somewhere... There were none! However, after stripping the top end of the engine (inlet off to access wires), I find I have to stick it all back together again tomorrow  I had rare...

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

Thanks Mark, I've just opened to report so haven't had a chance to look yet... However, the report: I found the following and am not sure why I have 3 grounds o_O 5 wire MAF. Wire 1= grey 5v+ Wire 2 = brown/pink 12v+ Wire 3 = thin red 12- (ground) Wire 4 = thick red 0v either way Wire 5 =...

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

Ruled out the air intake system. Never really thought it was that anyway, but... I bought carb/brake cleaner and sprayed it all over each inlet pipe, duct and connection and there was no increase or decrease in RPM. So, going by the indication that the MAF is faulty, it is entirely possible...

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

Not yet, but I did think about it. However, 3 MAF's can't all be wrong surely? The original and two (new) Bosch ones o_O from same indy dealer... It has been suggested I have a leak, which I did have, but I found it and fixed it (I even reported it on here if I recall correctly) That was the...

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

Indy said the cats & O2's are working beautifully. The O2's were replaced 18k miles ago with Bosch ones. No expense spared, but the compute stated diagnostic check complete, MAF fault found. He didn't specify any range, only that he was convinced it's a wiring fault to the MAF.

You can take your time, next few days is fine. I would like the car running nice though and if it turned out to be a bad wire I would be over the moon because I can fix that

MAF Fault that isn't the MAF....

I have put decent plugs, Magnecor leads, new coils and a Bosch MAF. So It does "appear" to be wiring, but where??

I suggested that and he said no! It still needs to be plugged in....
