How do I work out how early my 110 is.

Thanks for the replies guys. I must admit I found the chassis decoding stuff but it still only gives you a year rather than narrowing down a bit more. Tungstene, that was my thought exactly, surely they won't have started 000001, and even if they did it wouldn't help me knowing if mine was the...

How do I work out how early my 110 is.

Hi all, Sorry if it's a stupid question. But is there anyway to work out how early off the production line my 110 is? it's an 83. For example if the last 6 digits of my chassis number is 189000 does that mean it's the 189,000th made, or is it not that simple?

    Tyre/tire iron advice?

Definitely use talc as I personally find it helps a lot. Also try to get tubes with the correct TR15 valves rather than using collars as I've had the collars cause issues. Bit of washing up liquid does help get them back on. My tyres are 10 plys with a pretty stiff side wall and its still pretty...

    Grumbling swivels?

I wouldn't have thought it was the swivel making a noise. Unless the bottom bearing is totally shot but unlikely. It could possibly be a track rod end. Can you get someone to turn the wheel lock to lock while you 'feel' around for the noise? hold each track rod end and see if you can feel it...

    Anyone cut themselves open recently?

I had an unfortunate one a while ago. I was pulling a dent out of the sill on my van but I didn't have a slide hammer. So I improvised with a great big bit of stainless steel round bar. It was about 7 inches long and 4 inches across. I put it on a bit of threaded bar with a thick plate threaded...

    Tyre/tire iron advice?

I replace my own tubes. I had enough of paying out to have them fitted. You need a tool to remove the valve core. Use your high lift to break the bead. I bought two fairly long levers to make my life a bit easier but to be honest they don't need to be that long. If your just changing a...

You'll be fine on points at 1000 per annum. You can fix points in the field too if anything goes wrong. Just keep a set tucked away somewhere. Along with a diaphragm or two for your SU's if you're still on them. They can split and leave you with problem.

"galv chassis ,,what colour to paint it"

I think a metallic would look good. I always like the metallic gun metal greys. Or you could do your yellow with a tinted lacquer to tone it down a bit but make it very deep. I think the galvanise will take some prep-work to make the paint stick though. ... how about some hydrographics? I've...

    Defender door window runners

Depending on the age and condition you normally find all the heads are rusted off. I drilled all of mine and put stainless self tappers back in. Toolstation sell cheap stainless self tappers.

Yeah I must admit I had the optronic luminition kit on a triumph spitfire, and that was fine. I'm not impressed by these newer magnetic pick up kits though. Big difference in price between luminition and accuspark though.

    Winch in a bag anyone?

If you used it with a pulley block you could double the pull. I think depending on the situation 2500lbs will be limited. I hear a lot of ATV guys use 2500lb winches. I paid £125.00 for my 12000lb winch off fleabay. Although of course that has to be permanently mounted to the vehicle unless you...

Yeah as timc said, I find trying to make an NA V8 more economical is a bit of a fruitless exercise. Just keep it well timed, keep the filters clean, give it loads of oil changes and enjoy it.

Easiest way is to pop the distributor cap off and see if you have a set of points in there. if you pull the cap off and see nothing that resembles points (maybe a plastic looking block) then you are already electronic. That is unless you can see a module with wires coming off of the side of the...
