Chassis repairs and rusty bits on Peggy the ex farmy pick-up

Recently bought 90 300 TDI Pick-Up. My needle descaler is very good at unhiding rust perforations and hidden holes. These can look solid under crusty layers of metal and paint. From under O/S/R spring top mount. I removed the spring, which am replacing with new Flat Dog standard springs, galv...

    97 300TDI Pick-Up Suspension refresh/renew

I've ordered a set of these today. Removed a rear spring to replace the bump stop and weld on the bump stop mount, and my 27 yr springs are a bit pitted with rust. Only hope I can figure which ones go to the right corners, as they're seemingly weighted to account for the transfer box's uneven...

😂🤣😂 Comfy is good for me, not an expedition truck with an extra to of toys. Pickups are light and quite nippy too 👍

That would have been the previous owners Land Rover specialist who changed one for it's MOT. I agree shocks should always be replaced as a pair across the axle, for consistent handling. Here is a photo of the receipt so you know who done it... Using my air powered needle descaler, I have found...

Brake lights always on after jet clean, electrical issue on my 90 300 TDI pickup.

Thank you, Unfortunately it's connector isn't connected to anything in my bulkhead. It has a White/red and green/black wire If I can get the male counterpart connector I could run ignition power to it and attach a name tag, but I don't like modified wiring! Maybe I should just run a new cable...

Brake lights always on after jet clean, electrical issue on my 90 300 TDI pickup.

I went ahead and bought a new chassis wiring harness from Sparks. Nice to just start from a good place, and a I've been making new connectors on my new 13 pin towing socket with shrink wrap colour keys to equate to the Land Rover colour wires Since I tow a caravan, I do need the ignition...

Series 3 109 Six Pot Rebuild Thread

Thanks, they're the original with age related marks. Some had been painted with aluminium colour, still got a length to clean. If they're getting close to rusting I take a little clear coat to preserve them as they are, followed by a light rub to dull any shine.

Series 3 109 Station Wagon, full ground up resto and 88 redo careless resto driving project

Yep, what a difference filtered fuel makes lol. I did clean the nylon finger filter and brass nut on the carb with carb cleaner. Had a trip to the woods and got loads of ash logs yesterday, in advance of the wet weather. Here's a pic halfway through the job, and the old girl was a pleasure to...

Series 3 109 Station Wagon, full ground up resto and 88 redo careless resto driving project

Just installed a new proper fuel filter in the 75 S3 Station Wagon Gigi. That's the second cheap rubbish filter that's disconnected internally, and been filtering diddly squat! Just junk. After keeping loosing power and stalling, I kinda knew it was junk in the carb. I had bought some quality...

The Little Discovery That Could (financially ruin me)

You will actually miss the wee headache once she's gone. Also next year you'll be wanting her back, but it's not a bad idea to cover her up for a few months, somewhere out of sight, to let your enthusiasm catch up, and the missus get sick of you being around all the time. Hope you can stash her...

    97 300TDI Pick-Up Suspension refresh/renew

My recently bought Defender 'Peggy' has had odd shocks replaced for previous MOT's. The annoying thing is they have replaced the front left one year, and the rear O/S last. So she moves diagonally more easily one way than the other. Also all her old springs are super rusty as are her turrets...

Yep, everything seems to get in the way of what we really want to be doing, so I give at least one day a week to move the Landy's along. Having a new'ish 300 TDI pick-up on stands for some chassis re repairs, and a new wiring harness doesn't help either, nor does having my daughter's polo...

Yep, a wedge of wood or such will hold top corner enough for you to go fishing with a long strong coat hanger thickness of wire to pull a catch or leaver. I got stuck in my 2016 Scooby this way, wind, and recovery firm did this too

Resto, Repairs, and adventures with 'Peggy' The 1997 90 Pick-Up

Got this Manual which is very comprehensive, and just covers the 300 TDI Defenders for the three years. It suggests both with and without CAT downpipes were fitted. Would it have only been the wolf defender that there was no catalytic converter fitted, or which civilian vehicles may have had...

Resto, Repairs, and adventures with 'Peggy' The 1997 90 Pick-Up

I got her a couple of weeks back, and love the way she drives, heats up quickly and works so well off road in my woods. But prefer my Series 3 doors with the sliding windows, winding the window is like trying to scratch my big toe while driving and opening the passenger window for the small dog...

Series 3 109 Station Wagon, full ground up resto and 88 redo careless resto driving project

I retired this year and decided to ease off my daily use of Gigi the 1974 S3 Station wagon, she drove a 55 mile round trip to see a 300TDI 90 Pick-up, and helped me get an awesome discount. Have been using her for demanding off road woodland work, and she's never let me down, but it's time for...
