[SOLVED] Anyone able to join an aluminium air con pipe??

Hiya Tony...how's things up in Preston Bud ???? I'm going back in time, when I had the P38 and the hose sprung a leak from the compressor. We were living in Ireland at the time and disregarding the price of shipping, it was very expensivefor a new one, more than the cost of the Freebie one (As...

[SOLVED] Anyone able to join an aluminium air con pipe??

Ideally, a new pipe is best but sit down comfortably before asking the price !!!:eek: If you can get a good s/h one that has no signs of chafing etc., it should be fine. Another avenue to explore is to Google "Pirtek" I am sure they will have a branch in your area. Take the hose assembly...

    P38A 4.0 to 4.6 thor or....

Off the top of my head..... Apart from the mechanical bits, you will need to swap over the engine harness, change the GEMS Ecu to the Motronic (Ideally the one matched to the engine) and get the Motronic EMS (Security code) read and noted. Next, the BECM will have to be unlocked and the settings...

Buying RRC... Things to look for

Pitting of the spherical swivel hubs was a common fault due to muck and grit etc being trapped in the housing seal which caused the seal to leak and gradually lose the oil (EP 90 I think). The spheres are simply stripped and re-chromed. LR got over the issue by filling the hub with a "One Shot"...

Steering wheel badly worn. What to do?

I'm sure you will be happy with the results. Follow the instructions and wait for each coat to dry before applying the next. *TIP* Clean the area(s) to be dyed with Methylated Spirit, to remove the oil residue from previous skin contact-use a clean rag soaked with the Meth's for this job. When...

Steering wheel badly worn. What to do?

I have a 2002 TD4, ES with the grey leather steering wheel. After a while the colour on the wheel fades due to wear from handling. I just re-colour it with a leather dye when this happens and it comes up as good as new and lasts around 12 months or so. I use Gliptone leather dye which comes in...

Propshaft bolts: Britpart you are sh!te!

:behindsofa: Not having a dig at you !!!:tea: Loads of posts on the forum refer to the spanner/socket size instead of the thread diameter. As has been posted on here, best bet is to take the nut or bolt to an Engineering supplier or motor factor at a push and they will identify the...

Propshaft bolts: Britpart you are sh!te!

:behindsofa: Let's get one thing straight....There are no 9/16" bolts fitted to hold the propshaft UJ's to the Diff or Transfer Box flanges. They are 3/8" UNF High Tensile. People mistakenly use the spanner size (Across Flats) as the bolt size, which means nothing as some flanged head hex...

Freelander TD4 Disc Brake Backing Plates

Typical penny pinching by LR. The rear backplates are made from thicker steel because the brake shoes and cylinder are attached to them. The fronts are just shields so they are made from paper thin material. I have never had the problem with all the other cars I have owned including a Disco...

Freelander TD4 Disc Brake Backing Plates

The steel that the front backplates are made of is absolute ****e. It's a common problem, just rip them off where they are rotten. Removing them is not a MOT fail and removal will not affect the braking or the shocks in any way. Mine have been removed for 3 years and I have no problems with...

Can't get the lower ball joint off!

The rivet heads are dimpled in the centre. Use a 4mm HSS drill first followed with an 8.5mm. Don't run at high speed, it will burn the drill tip and if possible use a pillar drilling machine and ideally a cutting compound or at a push, ordinary engine oil to keep the drill cool.

    Immobiliser Issues

:behindsofa: Yes...I have had this before with Diesel P38's. Good job you have the diagnostics to pick it up otherwise you would have been spending ££££s with a main stealer, if they would have found it !!!. Entering the EKA (If it was enabled) would have made no difference, in fact it could...

Wading plug or drain plug missing ? Help

:behindsofa: For info......The wading plug thread size is the same as the radiator drain plug-1/2"BSP parallel. Used to be able to buy a brass replacement from a company called "Zeus Engineering" which were better than the original plastic as the heads did not chew up when trying to...

    Diesel injectors

When I came to replace the water pump on my TD4 over a year ago, I decided to get the injectors checked at the same time. ( Mileage was around 130000) Sent them to a Bosch service centre and got a report back to say that the spray patterns & delivery rates were incorrect even after cleaning so I...
