    Overboost?

@ozzyboydeano - The OP's question is about overboost, what is actually going on in the inlet manifold is irrelevant to the engine ecu which makes the actual decision about what the boost pressure is.What is relevant is what the map sensor tells it,if it see's more than 230Kpa it will cut...

    Overboost?

The way to see the boost is not through a boost gauge, but as the engine ecu see's it, so a Nanocom or similar is the way forward.More than 230Kpa is overboost as the Storm ecu see's it.

    Compression test on engine stand

I have done electronic compression tests on probably hundreds of TD5's with a current clamp and a Pico laptop based scope. As already said if you saw the engine start and run well before purchase you don't need to worry.Unless there is a concern about rough running or bad smoke issues, I doubt...

    Disco 2 Central Locking

Unless you have a particular reason for wanting speed locking I'd advise you not to have it enabled.I've drunk too much Christmas spirit to tell the stories, but I advise all my customers to have it deactivated on their cars.

Hi found a possible fix for TD4 2000 rpm misfire and smoke issue

My feeling is that its down to the behaviour of the injectors.I got fed up with recon injectors from various suppliers and ended up using only genuine Bosch units. This has sorted all of them so far. Just today I had an enquiry for a TD4 that I worked a load of snake oil into 6 months ago and it...

V8 O2 Lambda sensor - changed but EML back on?

There is probably nothing wrong but a low air flow reading. The AFM MUST read 22-25 Kg/Hr at idle for the engine ecu to allow a wide enough injector pulse width. Below this reading and the engine can't get enough fuel to switch the sensor up to its rich reading - 0.8v. Do a search on...

    Disco 4 (LR4) Repair Costs

If you read the first post it was quoted as plus Vat, which is cheap for a LR main dealer. The one my son works at is £125 + Vat, as a LR independant I charge £45 + Vat, I know of plenty in between...

    Disco 4 (LR4) Repair Costs

£90 labour for rear pads, same for rear door latch, seems reasonable to assume thats an hour in each case ?

    Disco 4 (LR4) Repair Costs

I'm suprised the main dealer is only £90/hr - most have been over £100 for a long time. Their overheads are enormous. And its pointless quoting internet prices comparing D1 or D2 parts almost without fail D3/4 parts are more expensive.Plus they will be genuine parts from the dealer. You have to...

    Land Rover 90 n/a diesel

I have one for sale, its a blue hardtop. Hasn't been run for a while but I'm sure it won't take much to get it going. I've just bought it off a local farmer and have the logbook etc. Was going to do the full job,300tdi,pas etc.But its never going to happen,I have too much work on and too many...

P38A V8 Problem: Turner Engineering: 20k miles: Broken timing chain

I had a similar fault with a customers car many years back. The engine was a genuine unit from LR which I had fitted, also failed just out of warranty... Turner Engineering don't make those front covers, neither do LR,all can be subject to failure. This is one of the problems of putting large...

    Wastegate

Well there's a good reason not to use aftermarket parts in situations like that. Like I said I have dealt with literally hundreds of overboosting TD5's,Disco's and Defenders since they came out in 1999.The first one was for the English Armed forces in a 110 Defender which was full of electronics...

    Wastegate

Or you could just check what is the actual problem 99% of the time.Since 1999 I have replaced just 2 wastegate modulators on DII's,and only the actuators as part of a new or replacement turbo. Take the actuator off, away from the wastegate arm itself. Hold the end of the arm between your...

    L322 2005 6A 4.4 V8 Will not talk to testbook 5.06

Just a thought before you delve into the depths of the wiring diagrams... I would first try your Testbook on another car to prove it is correct and working. I'll have a quick look in my Rave data, which is in my T4 at work if I get a chance, refresh my memory on how early Fullfat's do their comms.

    L322 2005 6A 4.4 V8 Will not talk to testbook 5.06

The normal reason for lack of comms on those is the headlight levelling ecu. Pinky/Purply, fag packet sized ecu at the bottom of the nearside A pillar. It was common for them to fill up with water and grow green gunge across all the pins in the multiplug. If that is the case with yours then...

Disco 2 Remote key receiver upgrade

The upgrade to the P38 rf receiver was to narrow its range of acceptance of rf signals. The original versions would wake up the BECM,(And therefore flatten its battery in 24hrs) with any nearby activity on or around 433Mhz. The upgrade can filter out all of that and only wake up the BECM when a...

    P38A Starting Problem

Oxygen sensors will have no impact on starting the engine, neither will the Maf signal. The engine ecu will not look at outputs from the Maf until it gets away from the starter motor and the oxy sensors need around 10 secs of running to get up to temp and start switching. The basics are needed to...

    P38A Misfires and Diagnostics?

What you need to do is watch the oxygen sensors as live data, along with the airflow reading. Those fuel pumps are very reliable, if the oxy sensors can switch down rich to 0v, then there is sufficient fuel pressure.
