What did you do with your Range Rover today

I learned to drive at age fifteen taking my Dad's Series 1 Land Rover round our smallholding. Previously I had learned to ride a motorcycle on his D1 BSA Bantam. When the parents were out my mates & I used to take the BSA for a spin round local roads. I'm surprised none of the neighbours ever...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

It's got to be an aftermarket grill as there is no way that you could modify a plastic P38 grill by drilling it with hundreds of holes without it shattering.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I did this a few years ago at work except it was as I was getting out of the car I somehow managed to drop the keys under the driver's seat just as as I was coming the door. The RAC guy used one of those inflatable rubber wedges to open a crack in the door big enough to get a bit of bent wire in...

P38A Is this the head gasket?

I dropped the screeenwash filler cap several years ago & can still see it stuck & inaccessible. I just bought a replacement. I might just be able to reach it if I had one of those but grabber thingies where you press a button at the top to use the fingers at the end.

    P38A Leaky airspring connection.

There needs to be air in the tank to make it rise up in seconds from starting the car. The pump takes several minutes to fill the tank if there has been leakage downstream overnight. Inflation is always with compressed air from the tank never directly by the pump.

P38A Nanocom cables, why so bulky?

Just yesterday I thought my Nanocom had died but it turned out that the heavy cable had dropped out of the socket. Once I replaced the cable it still wasn't powering up which I eventually realised was due to a blown fuse.

    P38A P38 audio system.

The HK DSP amplifier is unobtainable new & impossible to repair. A Discovery 2 stereo amplifier part number XQK100210 is plug compatible & can even be found brand new. You lose the rear door speakers but front speakers & sub woofer will work. I haven't got round to fitting it yet but I bought...

    P38A EKA woes....

This is incorrect. Being able to enter the EKA without the dance with the key is one of the great benefits of having a Nanocom. BTW I'm not sure what benefits there are to having your BECM unlocked.

    P38 diesel not starting

Island 4x4 are OK if you know what you want but it's now no longer possible to speak to them by phone if you have a question or if you have a problem with a delivery. Rimmer Bros are great if you do need to discuss exactly what part you need as they are very knowledgeable.

    P38A Grubby tail lights

My rear tail lights are OK but the clear plastic over the rear number plate bulbs (tucked under the handgrip of the upper half of the tailgate) is almost completely black. I only discovered this when i needed to change one of the bulbs.

    Early P38 EKA code input?

I run V4 of the RSW software on a Windows 11 HP tablet that I bought on eBay for £75. It works with the HP OTG USB adaptor connected to the special cable that I received in the post from Storey Wilson. There are a couple of LEDs in the socket that plugs into that ODB socket. These light up when...

    which 20w50 is the one...?

V8 Developments rebuilt my engine & recommended Valvoline VR1 20w-50 at 1,000 oil change then subsequent changes every 5,000.

P38A Project Car - 1998 Autobiography Engine Rebuild

You are quite right & have just saved me €17. Despite the listing in Keith's link claiming it's R134a & having 134 in big letters on the side of the can the label actually states that it's a 'Natural Organic Refrigerant' & a replacement for R134a. From Googling I see that DIY cans of proper...

P38A Project Car - 1998 Autobiography Engine Rebuild

When you wrote 'regassed' I took that to mean you had filled it up not just topped it up. The R134a in your link is pretty cheap though as it it is a 425gm can. I shall have to order a can when I get back to France as I want to use STP Super Seal on it. My system is either porous or has a small...

P38A Project Car - 1998 Autobiography Engine Rebuild

I really doubt that you bought 1200gms of R134a for only €18. If you take it to a place with a proper A/C recharge machine they suck out all remaining gas then vacuum or pressure test then refill with the correct amount of R134a. The P38 takes 1200gms of gas.

P38A Project Car - 1998 Autobiography Engine Rebuild

In the UK I don't think that it's worthwhile to regas yourself as so many places offer bargain regas at around £40 . I have used an ATS Groupon deal several times but it seems they aren't currently offering it. The P38 takes a lot of gas so the cost of aerosol cans to recharge will easily exceed...

    Air Con Not Working.

You will be better off using a specialist vehicle A/C firm than your local mechanic when it comes to fixing A/C problems.

The DPF collects particulates ie soot particles. There is no test for particulates in the MOT.

P38A EAS Fault finding threads or files.

I find the free EAS Unlock V3 software much nicer to use than a Nanocm when calibrating the ride heights. https://www.rswsolutions.com/index.php/range-rover-classic/easunlock-software
