Series 3 Anyone know of a good petrol engine, please?

With a moniker like that, I can see where you are coming from! I have been pleasantly surprised at the performance of the 2.25 diesel - but I have a 4.0 V8 P38A for the days when I feel like a bit more grunt. My 109 is very original and even still has fully working convoy lights, so I reckon if...

Series 3 Anyone know of a good petrol engine, please?

Cheers, wireman. I think I know the place you mean. Nice guy. Bought some stuff for a Disco from him some years ago. He's just beyond the traffic lights at one of a series of villages with unpronounceable names after we have passed through, from here, Coedpoeth and Bwlchgwyn.

Thanks for that. I haven't really got the hang of navigating this forum so have not yet seen your other post.

    Wanted 2.25 diesel engine

My 1984 ex-military 109 has a really good - though smokey - 5-bearing diesel. Apparently a Gold Seal Rover Factory Rebuilt Unit. Pulls like a train - which is a relative term, of course! Anyway, I am considering returning the old lady to her original 2.25 5-bearing petrol so would be interested...

Series 3 Anyone know of a good petrol engine, please?

I have been very lucky to buy a 1984 ex-military 109 in first class condition, including fully working convoy lights. It began life with a 2.25 5-bearing petrol engine, of course, and I would like to return it to original, if anyone knows where I might find a suitable engine. The 2.25 5-bearing...

P38 or D2....Can't decide! please help!

I love Range Rovers and now run a 2001 P38 4.0 HSE. Bought carefully - low owners and low mileage - and the old girl has not, touch wood, been a minute's bother. My wife and I absolutely love it. Like owning your own magic carpet! I also have a 2000 D2 TD5 which I use for general mucking about...

    P38 vibration.

I had some vibration on certain road surfaces, and also a lot of wandering and swooping. I had 18" wheels with a brand new set of Pirelli Scorpions. Eventually advised that such handling appears to be a feature when you fit wheels larger than 16" so I swapped and the problem went away.

    P38 rear light clusters

I had changed the battery without any effect on the error signals. Then, following Dave's advice, I replaced the four offending bulbs. Been going serenely on our way ever since, so thanks, Chaps. Brilliant. Now I have to replace the roof lining! Happy days.

Still good news, so dare we hope the problem is sorted?

    P38, '97 DSE 2.5L MPG

My 2001 4.0 V8 does 17-18 pottering about locally and 21.5 on a run recently, averaging 74mph door to door from Carlisle to Wrexham. We only do 6500-7000 miles a year, so I can live with that fuel consumption for the pure joy of listening to the V8 through it's new stainless exhaust system...

    P38 rear light clusters

Well the new bulbs seem to be working the miracle, although after only a few days I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the advice. Have a good Christmas.

P38A Biggest tyre for a p38a without trimming or modding?

Been there and got the T-Shirt, I'm afraid. My 2001 4.0 tended to swoop around on cats' eyes, grooves left by trucks, ridges in the tarmac etc. Several checks later, and a set of poly bushes, but she still wandered. Then someone said it's the 18" wheels that cause the problem. Reluctant to...

    P38 rear light clusters

Thanks, Dave. Thought I might change the light clusters while waiting in Tesco's car park for my wife to do her shopping but they must be from an older car that had orange lenses, so my orange bulbs don't fit. Back to the drawing board! However, I will first try your advice of some new bulbs. I...

    P38 rear light clusters

Thanks for that. I did wonder about a 'make and break' on the bulbs - but on four of them? Been given a couple of new light clusters and a suggestion that I buy new connection blocks, so I suppose that's the next thing to try. If you can still find the right blocks.

    P38 rear light clusters

My 2001 P38 4.0 V8 HSE keeps insisting that either the indicator bulb or the brake light bulb has failed in one or other of the rear light clusters. The bulbs are fine and if I pull off the connector and clean it all up, it usually works again. For an hour or two, or even a day or two. Anyone...

How to: Remove clock Disco 1 (with pics)

Brilliant, chaps - thank-you very much. I have been looking at the in(or de?)structions in my Haynes manual for the Disco 1 and it looked like a real recipe for buggering the little clips because it didn't say where they are. Now I know - so as soon as my wife isn't looking and I can "borrow" a...

    Is supermarket diesel really cheaper?l

Having heard rumours about the quality of supermarket diesel I conducted some tests with my 1997 Discovery 300 Tdi by driving around 1000 miles on each of Shell V-Power , Shell and Esso bog-standard diesel and supermarket stuff from Sainsbury and Tesco. Results were as follows:- V-Power cost...

    Disco 1 or 2 diesel

Don't be put off by malcontents! I've had five Discos, all 300Tdi and all but one have been brilliant. That one was a nightmare and didn't stay with me long! Currently have two. My old M-reg ES which I bought two and a half years ago and which has never missed a beat, even though the poor old...
