Landrover Defender 200Tdi - Horn not working

In a day or two it still wouldn't have been easy. But, the fun element will start to emerge :D

Landrover Defender 200Tdi - Horn not working

Nothing's every easy on a Landy, it's part of the fun o_O

Landrover Defender 200Tdi - Horn not working

+1 It's quite common for the terminals to corrode and lose continuity, so the horn stops. Once the grille is of you can get your fingers in to pull the connectors off, clean and push back on. Will be very surprised if that doesn't sort it.

    You're a very strict assessor :)

    TD5 central locking kit

Here's a link to setting up central locking on a rear door. No idea if this link still works as I had it saved on a Word document on my laptop for future use. http://forums.lr4x4.com/topic/65009-power-door-lock-on-old-style-rear-door/ I'd also found a post on setting up the 10AS box for central...

    TD5 central locking kit

Will probably be wise. I'll take a picture of the box mine came in and post it later for you to compare. I'd like to do mine again at some point, with a different kit, but haven't got around to doing it.

    TD5 central locking kit

I've got a 1996 300Tdi and I fitted a Hawk central locking kit. DON''T BUY ONE! To be fair, they're cheap as chips. But, they prove categorically that you get what you pay for. First of all one of the servos failed. No problem, they're cheap so I'll just buy another kit! Then another failed, so...

    90 Defender rear crossmember 93 (k)

Sounds like you're taking a very sensible approach! I fitted a pair of Britpart calipers on the rear of mine eight years ago and they've never been a problem. Obviously there's a fair few areas of the body to keep an eye on. IMO important bits are the tub mounts through the upstands from the...

That's odd. Presume the engine was running while it was buzzing?

Fully understand that Mick and appreciate I was describing a perfect situation - and life's not generally like that! The bloody annoying thing too is that galv chassis have just about doubled in price since I did mine and that was not too many years ago. :( Top tip - don't take your gearbox...

Is the rest of your chassis absolutely solid? I replaced my rear cross member, but a few shor years later ended up replacing the lot. I would have been better of putting the money towards a whole chassis. Presumably you've given yours a good going over with a hammer?

    Egt sensor

So when the battery is isolated by a switch the noise starts up? Where is the noise coming from? Engine bay under the bonnet, in the dash behind instrument binnacle. Do you have any speakers and a sound system in the Landy?
  16. Al2O3

    Egt sensor

I'm suspecting the OP has taken his live feed from the sound system somewhere. So, feedback from the EGT sensor thermocouple is playing down the speaker wires.

    Egt sensor

What is actually making the noise? Droning from speakers would suggest electro-magnetic interference.

    Boost gauge

Glad you got it sorted

    Boost gauge

Nah, you need to pay more attention Lynall :) I fitted one to mine after I rebuilt the engine. Mine is the standard tube to the air inlet manifold, never get a FSD. Easiest way to get max boost from the turbo is going up hill with my foot to the floor. (That's not an FSD though)

    Boost gauge

You're not giving much away, but presumably you've bought a digital pressure sensor and you've wired it up incorrectly, giving the equivalent of a FSD.
