You are probably spot on for most peep's need's when you say that. Currently a very good nick F2 can be had for the same price or probably less, than a Defender which will undoubtedly be pile of rust and rot under the big wheels and shiny paint.

And me, a noisy diff is the only issue Following your thread with interest Nodge, thanks for the detail. My diff is noisy (has been for the 2 years I've owned it) and have been putting the task of stripping it out, off. Done lots over the years but never stripped a diff. My F2 was reg'd...

Well as much as I love the Defender, the current prices are unrealistic especially when compared to the competition. Would I spend 25k (if I had it!) on a tarted up TD5 or would I buy a current model vehicle such as the jimny.......Japan it is for me......£20,995.....not in yellow though :rolleyes:

I watch the youtube crowd in the states who had the issue(s) with the new defender(s). I see their latest 'new' defender is throwing spurious faults after some snow based mild off-roading. Far too much electronics for me, I'll keep my £45k (if I had it!)

It's going to spread far and wide regardless............

Excuse my ignorance on diff's, never done one before but don't the rear wheels turn in opposite directions when one is turned by hand and both rear wheels are jacked off the ground?

Replaced the front and rear discs, pads and shoe's on me F2 last year. Easy enough, did have to readjust the handbrake shoes after a few miles.

Don't get from eurocarparts, thin as loo roll.

I always remember from my apprenticeship training days, ICE workshop instructor tossed a match into a pool of diesel........it goes out and doesn't burn. He didn't do it with petrol...:D

Just a thought, its hard to see the level of damage to the head. Would you think there's a chance the different compression ratio for the damaged cylinder is an issue until warm?

45 mins, that's only the stripdown but they don't rush it. Don't mind watching their videos.

If they don't shift with impact driver, grinder with cutting disc, buy new hinges.
