P38A Is it time to jump to LPG ? (4.6l Gems)

So.... with petrol rapidly approaching £2 per litre and LPG around £0.80 is the time right now to bite the bullet and opt for an LPG conversion ? I've a late '97 4.6L Gems which returns between 13 and 24 mpg. The petrol prices alone are emptying my wallet and the 'payback' for an LPG conversion...

Have asked the garage to check it but I’m pretty certain it’s not right. the good news is they’ve agreed to fit a replacement FOC. is Ashcroft the best place to go for a recon or are there any other recommendations ? thanks again Bob (edited for random Boobage)

I was standing on the breaker bar (and I’m not exactly ‘slight’ and I didn’t really detect any movement at all -and was worried about over-tightening the wheel nuts

maybe I need to try again…with sustained pressure on the bar for a period of time. 130NM is approx 95 lbft of torque. I left the descision on the box / VC up to The garage and said if the old box was ok, just do the VC but they did the whole box. I suppose I was just a wee bit worried as it...

P38A Worrying whine from front end -road speed related

Hi Folks, Just a wee update (and cry for help through gnashing teeth) managed to source what I was assured was a 'good' transfer box and front diff and dropped them and the beast off at the garage a fortnight ago. Got her back yesterday, they'd swapped everything over and I asked whether the...

P38A Gauge Temp Sensor AMR5929 (green)

I’d spotted this too but could find no corroboration and I’m nervous about metric vs imperial threads

P38A Gauge Temp Sensor AMR5929 (green)

Going to investigate more fully tomorrow when I have more time but it looks like the wiring may be the source of my issue. It appears a different connector has been spliced onto the end (green and black wires in the loom are both red at the connector) so I think a continuity check is a good...

P38A Gauge Temp Sensor AMR5929 (green)

The cheap, readily available ECU sensor is working just fine and it’s that (I believe) which speaks to nanocom / odbII. The green / gauge one is the tricky bugger and I’ve seen no news of a replacement / alternative / oem option. I may ask the local main dealer tomorrow for a laugh !

P38A Gauge Temp Sensor AMR5929 (green)

There is a single pole version from earlier (AMR1425 or something) and someone else suggested checking some wiring connections under the coolant reservoir. I did notice on one of the US forums that they recommend Ultraguage -which is basically a ODBII reader which gives an accurate display of...

P38A Gauge Temp Sensor AMR5929 (green)

Hi folks, just a quickie but do any of you fine folk know whether both the Gems and Thor V8s used the same sensor ? I’ve read that the gauge is basically a placebo but mine has gone from Intermittent to dead. I know that they’re a bugger to get hold of these days but I may have found a...

P38A Viscous Coupling Fan removal tool

Hi, So I think I'm about to attempt this to replace the coolant hoses, thermostat and water pump on a '97 Gems 4.6. Will go and consult RAVE but the wee tricksy nut holder that RSW Chap used in his vid looked pretty handy, Does anyone have a source (or know the right size) for one of these ...

    P38A Front prop shaft question

Prop shaft is staying put. I’ll just need to get it to the garage somehow. Still awaiting parts (and cash !) so no great rush. Frustrating though.

yes, it’s not nice and is making a grizzly noise. Thankfully the garage is only a mile or so away so hopefully I can get there without too much drama.

    P38A Front prop shaft question

Hi hive mind, I know there must be a formula for this kind of thing and I’m sure one of you fine folks will know. I’m trying to remove my front prop shaft and I’m having a bugger of a job. I do have the propshaft tool and I do have a handy pair of 9/16” hex spanner’s but the nuts are putting...

no, I’ll Leave the diff (and the transfer box) to someone with a lift and who knows what they’re doing ! I just wanted to remove the front prop shaft so that I can perhaps drive it to the garage when the time (and parts) come !
