P38A What mods, if any do you have? 🤔

With my daylight running lights enabled the tail lights are also permanently on. It's only the dash and side light that aren't on.

BEMC immobiliser and EKA disabled. Daytime running lights switched on Arnott 3 bags (a little stiff at road height in my view, but fine in off road position) High lift cam in the V8 Top hat liners all interior bulbs are LEDs Everything else is standard

P38 rear left window button not working.

I've wondered this for a while. My 2006 Lexus is the same. I know car windows (I assume the P38 is the same) monitors the current draw of the motor, so if it reaches the end of travel, or you leave your arm in the hole, it detects the change in current draw and then stops the motor. I suspect...

    Opinion please

Is the rubber also knackered, or it just corrosion? If the rubber is in good nick then they should be salvageable. Whatever you do, don't throw the mouldings away.

    Opinion please

I am of the view that the P38 has reached a heritage now that anything that's obviously unoriginal cheapens the look of them. So I will be sticking to originals. Mine are also rusting. Even got an advisory for it. Plan is to take them off before it's too late and see if I can fabricate my own...

P38A What are these wires for in my engine bay?

I found these loose connections in my engine bay (4.0 MY2000). First two images show the same connector that has just been unplugged. Third image I have no idea what the little white connector might plug into. Just curious what luxury features I'm missing by not having these wires plugged in.

P38A C Pillar (rear) external black colour restorer

For all the other trim, I was planning on using Solution Finish trim restorer. It says it works on vinyl, but it's not a dye, so if my vinyl has lost it's colour, I don't think Solution finish can fix it. So the paint idea is probably the way to go on the vinyl. What I don't know is how well it...

Would that be something like this I suppose: https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/specialist-and-decorative-paints/halfords-flexible-vinyl-paint-black-363408.html

Does anybody know what product I could use to dye the rear C pillars black again on a P38? Some of the colour has rubbed off and looks a bit of a mess. Thanks

P38A automatic gearbox remains in Park despite selector lever setting

Crawl under the car, the xyz switch is between the gearbox oil pan and the left side cat (when looking up). If you confirm that the level isn't moving, you can easily remove the cable split pin and manually adjust the xyz lever into whichever gear you want.

P38A EV Conversion / Hybrid conversion - Pie in the sky thinking

I'm not so convinced. The inherent problem with hydrogen will always be that the electrolysis to produce the hydrogen is very inefficient. I don't remember the exact values, but it was something like for every KW of energy you put into a BEV, you need three times as much per KW of hydrogen. Then...

P38A EV Conversion / Hybrid conversion - Pie in the sky thinking

I've pretty much discounted the use of Hydrogen as a fuel source for an internal combustion engine. Take the below figures. 1 litre of petrol = 8.9 kWh 1 litre of H2 at 700 bar (highest you can have without cryo I believe)= 1.4 kWh So a 90l tank of petrol would require an equivalent H2 tank of...

P38A How to find emission data to check ULEZ compliance

Diesels have very high compression so they inherently have high Nox. This is why it's the EURO 6 (2014+) standard for diesels, but only the euro 4 (2005+) standard for petrols. I checked a 2008 BMW diesel for a mate and his was 0.2## for Nox so he was still out of luck.

P38A EV Conversion / Hybrid conversion - Pie in the sky thinking

I love my P38 and I think I will always want to own one. But it does make me wonder how likely am I to run one in 20+ years time? By then, fuel will probably all be synthetic, cost four times as much, plus a little extra as politicians will argue that you have no right to pollute the air when...

P38A How to find emission data to check ULEZ compliance

That's my point, the V8 is unrelated so unlikely to be a typo. If we were talking about two V8's of similar era, one being 0.051 and another 0.510 I would guess it's a typo. But were talking about a V8 being 0.051 and a diesel being 0.590. No reason to think it's a typo. Also, diesels typically...

P38A How to find emission data to check ULEZ compliance

Can't see it being a typo. I assume he has the 1.8 k series engine. Since it's not related to the V8 in any way, I can't see how there would be a chance to confuse the figures between the engines.

P38A How to find emission data to check ULEZ compliance

Newer engine usually have higher compression and smaller engines often rev higher. Great for efficiency and performance but the extra heat results in more NOx. Everything is a trade off so "better" all round often isn't achievable.

I think you are over complicating this. The standards are set out here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/ways-to-meet-the-standard#:~:text=The%20ULEZ%20standards%20are%3A,minibuses%20and%20other%20specialist%20vehicles Euro 4 for petrol on Nox. That's it. If your car...
