Disco 1 V8 Vacuum advance unit

The Disco 1 V8 uses ported vacuum, not manifold vacuum. That's why it's not advanced at idle, but advances at part throttle, such as when cruising, and just off idle.

    Electrical or computer starting problems

Did anyone check any basics? Is the click from the starter solenoid? or a relay? Hook a buzzer up to the starter motor, and if it buzzes, but doesn't start, the system is working and the starter is faulty. Work you way back through the system using the wiring diagram, until you find the fault...

I would just like to say

Our Dyson got thrown out on the lawn. Loud as ****, high pitched whiney useless peice of crap. Didn't suck dry ricebubbles up of the hard floors! Basically an electric broom - pushed everything to the side and then had to sweep it up  I got a Henry now - they're fairly expensive and...

Be aware, the gauge will show "normal" well before the engine is at full temp, and for a long time after it gets too hot , as well ;) I don't know the exact numbers, but for that engine (M57) in a BMW E39, the gauge will show straight up and down from 65C to about 115 or 120C.

The CO trim can be adjusted by removing the bung from the maf and carefully adjusting it. Ive seen higher fuel temps than that on ine, but probably while running, parked - it probably runs cooler with more airflow in the engine bay. Coolant seems correct - I think Standard thermostats are...

The Operation Pride tunes had different parameters for cold starts under -22C, so there must be some capacity for those measurements. Weirdly, his tune is R3704, which I've never seen online anywhere, and Op Pride was R3652, plus there was a couple of other, like R3654. I've never seen any...

Coolant temp sensor is poked - fuel temp is probably normal? - it gets hot, being to close to the motor and heads. Change the temp sensor for a good quality one. If it's 30c outside, and the engine is actually at 90-something, then is REALLY overfuelling at -16C - it'd be like having an old...

    Discovery 1 MAF 14 CUX

Nice! The code for the coolant sensor is triggered by it being WAY out of range (or, usually, open circuit) - I assume the -16C reading was VERY wrong? You may have a wiring, or sensor issue there. The other one, where the fuel temp is 91C, but cooltant is 35C, seems off to?? There is a...

Oof. I bet that was exciting :vb-doh: I think you're having a misfire, or leaking injector - either way, it appears you've had some fual vapour accumulate int he exhaust, and it's been ignited. In the old days, we use to do this for fun... Turn off the ignition, pump the gas and turn it back...

That's why I like auto-ranging, like on my Fluke meter 🤓 So, very liekly your meter is like most: when set on 20K, the 1.58 mean 1K58 or 1580 Ohms - thats plausible for a temp of around 30-something C? The 0.22 would be right up there, with your Viscous fan locked, very close to 100C - seems...

Yes - you need the resistor, but people have used the more common 390 Ohm without trouble, I beleive. Being a proper nerd, I ordered specific 400 Ohm resistors though 🤓

    (Dumb) Disco 4 V8 5.0 ... supercharged?

I do the dumb stuff that makes people say "WHY?" and "WTF for?" etc... So my current daily is a 2006 VW Touran 7 seater, which I converted with the full drivetrain from an R32 Golf (so from a FWD 2.0 auto petrol to a 4WD 3.2 VR6 manual). I've seen an L405 Range Rover for sale locally that...

As long as the 0.64 drops pretty quick, it might be OK. Settling to .24 may depend on the quality of your meter and leads - that IS fairly close to 0.30 to 0.34 though. The Coolant temp sensor for the ECU is the one with the square "timer" plug on it, kind of behind the distributor near the...

You can drill a small hole in the cap and pull it out with a screw, but it's the LAST thing you should be playing with, for you issue. The CO adjustment only trims the basic fuelling at low RPM and load... and if you have Lambdas, they take over that control anyway. The CO adjustment just sets...

Discovery 5 DTC on camshaft sensor - timing chain replacement?

Plenty of modern diesels are destroyed by fuelling issues. I have a good mate who's an engine reconditioner and my brother-in-law owns a diesel shop (injection and turbos). Both have many stories about fuelling issues and major problems. One guy had to rebuild his Nissan engine TWICE, after not...

Get a rovergauge cable and you can see all the reading direct from the ECU - exactly what it's seeing. There are mutliple MAF readings you have to look for. The Idle CO is one thing, but if the MAF isn't working, then the CO adjustment means nothing anyway The CO adjustment doesn't alter the...
