    Hello Again! (SOLVED, Engine replacement)

OK we talking cross purposes. I thought you meant the manifold end. Don't know of bolts on hangers. Normally hanger is welded to exhaust and goes into rubber hanger. Photo please!!

    Hello Again! (SOLVED, Engine replacement)

It's been repaired I expect. Best to have 2 bolts and brass nuts, then if they break they can be changed easily. Drill out ??

Freelander 1 Creaking noise when turning FL1

Loads on here about VCU getting tight. That causes all sorts of noises. Quick one wheel up test will reveal all !!

What have you done to your Freelander today

I've never seen a bad subframe bolt so you can save 38 quid probably !! You known she's worth it. What can you get for a grand these days ??

    Freelander 1 Fuel tank cradle

99% sure they are same. I used a TD4 cradle in good condition on a V6

Noises from behind when full steering

Test every 6 months is ideal. It goes from getting bad to very bad quite quickly. Tight VCU firstly destroys the front diff mount rubber bush, then either the IRD or the Diff or both. Diff is cheaper and easier to replace !!!

Noises from behind when full steering

OK. Well worth doing the test but previous VCU sounds like it has damaged the rear differential gears.

Noises from behind when full steering

Did it do it before VCU recon? Who did recon recon? Then as above. VCU one wheel up test figures.

    Freelander 1 Fuel tank cradle

Soak them before unbolting. The 2 towards the front of the car are on thin plate and drilling out is tricky and takes hours - ask me how I know !!!

    Freelander 1 Fuel tank cradle

I have done the same in the past with 2mm checker plate. If fitting new support bars I would still fabricate replacement plates. They help stop the tank being pierced or damaged by underbody items, rocks or even debris thrown up from road.

    Hello Again! (SOLVED, Engine replacement)

Yes that is the mod. This would have been fitted to the engine you have.

    Back door issues

Not if the 12v feed is ok and the motor in the latch has failed.

    Hello Again! (SOLVED, Engine replacement)

Sounds like the temp sensor or wiring. Have you fitted the front thermostat mod with extra Y shaped pipe as fitted to later vehicles? I think the 2004 car would have had this mod. But intermittent gauge points to sensor or wiring.

    Back door issues

So firstly, the tailgate key hole.only raises the window if it is down to save you opening the car again to shut it. If the window drops when you open the door handle then the CCU is getting a command to operate the tailgate latch. Most likely it is the motor in the tailgate latch that has...

    Freelander 1 Preserving the scarce ! FL1

Question for the Zone and the Mods please. As we are all noting that FL1s are now becoming rarer, parts are drying up, tatty ones are cheap and low mileage ones are rare (and usually expensive), could we have a thread that lists links to good condition low mileage FL1s ? Many of us spot them...
