Failed !! New stat. Short hose off. Plastic pipe corre t diameter to push in. Silicone up. Spent 2 hours and couldn't get the thing in far enough. It needs to be 25 to 30mm clear to allow the T fitting back in. No way was it going. Managed about 10mm but nearly gave myself a hernia!!! What...

Thanks. So for reference the small arrow just above cold on gauge is 50 degrees C. When gauge is at 1/4 reading, so half way to vertical, coolant is 60 degrees C. Drove for an hour and reached 60 degrees in traffic !! Think it's time for hose mod !!

Automatic has a very short top hose from engine then hits a fitting. New thermo may just fit, anyone done it ??

    Rear brakes TD4

These work well. Originals are 16mm top hole, 32mm bottom hole and 26mm depth. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224001269669?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=zOkNuKe6QJO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=b5qQSb6hQNK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Or these...

Beware! New arms have crap ball joint covers and it is still worth a poly upgrade for the work involved to re do them !!

Or if joints are good fit poly joint covers. They last longer than the rubber ones.

Many thanks. Wondered which way around it went! Am assuming once the original has failed it won't start working again or won't close permanently.

Thanks. FBH is working fine. Looking at the temp gauge with FBH off, the thermostat in engine has failed open. Never passes 1/4 way.

Am going to pull FBH and see what temp gauge does !!

Freelander 1 Fuel Burning Heater - still on with temperature normal SOLVED

Possibly. I am surprised that the stat has much part to play when engine fully warmed, but looks like it does. Temp gauge does go up and down at the moment so a working stat works hard on a TD4.

Rave suggests that there is a sensor in the heat exchanger that is used to measure coolant temperature - see extract: The heat exchanger transfers heat generated by combustion to the coolant. A sensor in the heat exchanger provides the ECU with an input of heat exchanger casing temperature...
