    VCU Torque test results

Yeah, I'm thinking that too. What I thought was strange was the difference between the tests which were all carried out under the same, quick fire conditions; Worst Test (#4) Best test (#7)

What have you done to your Freelander today

I've had a cursory look around and they're £600+ new, or £100/£150 for a second hand one that looks like it's been stored in the sea. As you say, I have a bit of time to deal with it but, it does need sorting! Well you know where to bring it next time, although I'm slightly concerned about what...

What have you done to your Freelander today

That's exactly what I thought! although the hole wasn't that big initially. I was poking around to remove the loose stuff and see exactly what I'm dealing with. Is that a replacement subframe job or could it be welded?

What have you done to your Freelander today

A busy day for me today. OWUT carried out revealing a mixed bag of results (see VCU thread). Rear drum brakes stripped down, cleaned, lubricated and reassembled. The nearside rear shoes have not automatically adjusted though so I need to open that one up again. I have also discovered that the...

FL1 TD4 Auto - Transmission whine after cold start - SOLVED

Good idea. I'm not so sure it's those though as my gut feeling is that it's too heavy a sound for bearings. I shall find out soon though

FL1 TD4 Auto - Transmission whine after cold start - SOLVED

I will check, but I think the water ingress theory is probably a red herring as none of it was particularly deep. This was the deepest, and most exuberant water section we did.

FL1 TD4 Auto - Transmission whine after cold start - SOLVED

One of my VCU bearings does have some play in it. They are going to be replaced imminently.

FL1 TD4 Auto - Transmission whine after cold start - SOLVED

I've had the noise for about a month. I had the fluids changed about six weeks ago and did some laning about a week after. I first noticed the noise shortly after that. We did go through some water but not very deep. Only a very very remote chance of water getting into the auto box. No chance...

FL1 TD4 Auto - Transmission whine after cold start - SOLVED

So I'm after a couple of pointers of things to check. On the first start of the day after the car has stood overnight, I'm getting a transmission noise for the first few hendred metres, when accelerating. It's a whine that sounds very much like an original mini transmission. I suspect the...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Had a great day out laning today in North Cornwall, but I certainly experienced the main weakness of the FL1. It was not traction, articulation, wading depth, lack of low range or diff locks. The car did everything I asked of it with ease, and seemed to excell on steep rocky and muddy gradients...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I didn't glue it. You can buy an unpainted pattern one for about £30 but I've no idea what the quality is like. Some adds are selling 2nd hand pairs on Ebay for £60. I paid £6 for mine at the local scrappy and painted it with rattle cans I already had. They still seem to be common enough in the...
