wiper park switch: why does it connect to earth

Not in any wipers I've worked on. The friction in the system stops the motor almost instantly.

    Re-shaping Lightweight back bumper/steps

Leverage seems to be the key. I've got them a bit more respectable, but have reached the point where a solid bench with a ton of crap on its shelves is now coming for a walk with me, the lever, step and vice. Luckily there's a barn next door standing on RSJs.

wiper park switch: why does it connect to earth

Right, got my diagram out too. Just the same. Nice of them to show such amazing detail of the motor. My first thought is that there is no reason ever to want to join any incoming V to the earth. - so is it possible that the connector fits some other way? A picture would help me! My guess is...

    Electrical - starting fault/issue (seeking help/advice) - 1996 Defender 110 300TDI

It might be worth trying two things. Squirt contact cleaner into the relay socket and put the relay in and out a few times to clean the sockets.. Second. If the relay socket connects to the loom with spade terminals, give them a clean in the same way. I'm working on the assumption that the...

Series 3 Loud knocking sound from the engine when running.

The crank may have picked up bits of bearing and other muck that has been hammered on to it by the dying bearing. Lst one I did looked like it needed a grind, but the guy who's been doing this for at least thirty years assured me a polish would do. They looked like new and the new bearings...

Series 3 Loud knocking sound from the engine when running.

It should come on with the ignition and go off once the engine starts. That would be a very unfortunate one to have fail.

Series 3 Loud knocking sound from the engine when running.

If you're very lucky it may only be the shells that are damaged and the crank may just need a polish. You didn't mention main bearings on your order? Edit. I'd put the order on hold until you've inspected it. You don't know whether it has standard bearings now, and you certainly don't know if...

They both use powerful vacs and there's no ash mess. It's just why wouldn't you chuck sheets down to save you having to take your boots off each time you come in and out? Edit, and just in case it goes a bit wrong. And yes, insurance. Infuriating, it's got a nice easy to clean metal liner.

I've come to the conclusion that dust sheets have gone out of fashion. Tried a different chimney sweep last time around, one small sheet, previous and future lays them all the way from the front door.

    2.25 petrol rough idle

Without reading back I think you did a compression test? If so there's nothing to be gained by stripping the engine, you'll be wasting your time. Did you try advancing to pinking and backing off? If so, you've got to go over the air and fuel.

    2.25 petrol rough idle

No! Detonation, otherwise known as 'pinking' is when the fuel/air mix in the cylinder actually explodes, as opposed to the very fast burn and expansion that you actually want. It sounds like there are something like 5mm nuts rattling inside the engine. Long term it'll damage the engine, but...

    2.25 petrol rough idle

I wouldn't have called that rough. What I think I'm seeing (and if you could put the camera in a fixed position for a while it would help) is hunting which just happens to drop the revs through a speed at which the mounts come out in sympathy. Take it for a drive and keep advancing until your...
