Help please! Electrical issue with 1995 Defender 110 County, 300 tdi

I bought a new Bosch battery once, put it on the car and worked lovely. A week later nothing, dead as a Dodo, got another one under warranty which was fine.

    (2000 TD5 90 defender)TD5 Fuel Pump

The previous owner of mine had a new pump fitted as the gauge didn't work, going by the bill I am guessing it's not genuine. This fixed the problem for a while but the gauge started playing up after I left a deposit. He filled it up and knocked £500 quid off. Anyway it was pretty noisy but in...

I suffered a Run away diesel

Injector refurb are £48+vat each for 200tdi so I guess 300tdi are similar price, not too bad.

    Rewire 3rd brake light

Get a test light and see which wire comes on with the brake light, extend it up to the bulb holder and earth the other side. Otherwise you could probably find a loom connector near the lower brake lights and follow the wire. Connectors look a bit green.

    200tdi stalling issue

Took it for a test drive and seems to be ok, which is a bit strange. Although the idle is a tad high, going to put a few miles on it then drop the idle down a tad and see what happens.

    unknown key barrels

My TD5 is the same size, the earlier one is approx 15mm.

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Air filter needs a bit of a clean while you're at it.

    200tdi stalling issue

Fitted the clear pipe between filter and inj pump, when running there is no air in the pipe. When I switch off you can see diesel and air running back from the inj pump to the filter. What would this indicate? Also developed a slight misfire when you put a few revs on. EDIT: IGNORE THAT...

    200tdi stalling issue

Going to try and get back on this today. Going to see if I can get a bit of clear pipe from filter to inj pump to make 100% there is no air. Then crack off injectors to see if that tells us anything. After that I guess we will have to send the pump and injectors away to be serviced. Pretty much...

    Rear rattle/ clunking

If you mean put a bar under the tyre and there is movement in the wheel then most likely wheel bearings. To be honest a complete rear bush and bolt kit isn't expensive, so if it's all a bit tired change the lot of it. Since Christmas is on its way stick everything on you list to Santa

    TD5 Noisy fuel pump

To me they are too expensive to buy on a whim and they are a lot harder to change on a Defender. You have the advantage of an access hole so if it does go wrong it's not so bad.

    unknown key barrels

I think there are small barrels and larger ones which I think came along sometime with the TD5s. The hole in the handle obviously dictates what key barrel you need. Measure the head of the key barrel, on the outside of your handle and I will measure my TD5 if you get stuck.

    Fuel Lines Diameter

200tdi 8mm inner from tank to lift pump and filter to inj pump. 6mm inner return to tank I do believe. Well, it is on ours anyway.

    Spitting output housing from Transferbox

Take the flange off, remove the circlip and pull the shaft out (with the bearing). You might need a slide hammer to pull it out, I used a metal bar and a hammer to knock it out. I don't remember it being particularly difficult or tight to get out. Remove bearing from shaft, fit the new one to...

    TD5 Noisy fuel pump

I thought that the pump was noisy when I bought my Defender. After a few years it is a bit quieter and still works. There is a access hole in the boot to change the pump anyway and the common opinion is to buy the expensive one.

    Spitting output housing from Transferbox

I remember, shaft comes out with the bearing on it, remove the circlip and pull it out.
