    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Thanks mate, it was a huge undertaking but a lot of fun.........and work.......and getting stuff wrong.........plus some tears..........and blood.........and a bit of sweat.........and a lot of procrastination..........but mostly just hours spent in the garage. But I have no intention of doing...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Not necessarily but as with everything you pays yer money. In my case the modules I'm using are heavier than most as they were used in the eGolf without any thermal management. Other cars that mollycoddle the batteries can get more power from a lighter pack but even then to get decent range...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Yes mate, it's a couple hundred kilo over the original dry weight so maybe 100 over standard with a full tank of fuel. The front is close to standard so all the extra weight is in the boot and it does feel a tiny bit tail heavy but not enough to be an issue. If I keep it long enough I might...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

It's been a while since I updated this thread or released a video. This was recorded a few months ago but only been edited and uploaded now. Since the car was converted to electric I've driven over 3000 miles and it is now my only tow vehicle as the clutch in SWMBO's Kuga is not great. There...

What have you done to your Freelander today

If a mechanic was doing the work the only bolt/nut he would replace would be the long ones that usually require cutting and drilling to remove. All the rest will be fine.

Freelander 1 Rear wheel cylinder bolts

We had an old horse lorry that SWMBO and our daughter used to go to pony club stuff, it was old but still looked OK and went well. Anyway one time she took it for MOT and I got a phone call from her saying the lorry was impounded by the MOT people. Turns out when they were testing the brakes...

    Freelander 1 Fuel tank cradle

I think they are the same but don't quote me on that. Have you considered trying to repair yours? I successfully replaced the plates on a couple of cars by (very carefully) cutting out the old ones and making replacements from sheet alloy secured with cable ties. The bars were in good enough...

Freelander 1 Rear wheel cylinder bolts

If you can't do it properly then take it to someone who can, brakes are the most critical part of your car and the thought of them failing because of a stupid bodge doesn't bare thinking about. Think about it, they will be most likely to fail when you need them most, like when coming off a...

The bigger question is what will @Nodge68 do with all the free time now he has no LR to maintain. Maybe we should club together and get him a wee project. Can't have him getting lazy on us. 🤣

Glad to hear it's going again. Weather has been a bit odd last few days, We had two days of unbroken sunshine Fri and Sat and the hottest days this year. Today a bit overcast and windy but still dry.

    Replacement CV Joints - FL1 TD4

I used a cheapo from ebay a few years ago and it lasted for 6 months or so until I sold the car. No idea how much longer it lasted but fixed the fault at the time.

If you can get it off the old one without breaking anything then go for it.

    2WD conversion

Pull off the propshaft and see what you think. It will only take an hour or two and you can do it with standard 1/4" sockets and a couple of spanners. If I remember correctly an 8mm socket fits the torx at the front well enough to hold it while you loosen the nut with a spanner and a 10mm fits...

    Freelander 1 throttle pedal

I'm assuming you have a FL1 TD4 as talking about low and high pressure pumps. The TD4 throttle pedal is electronic so it sends a signal to the ECU. The ECU will not let the car rev if there is something badly wrong but it's not likely to be the pedal.

I don't like to push my luck with the support plate the wheel cylinder is bolted too. I'd probably end up wrecking it.

Freelander 1 Rear wheel cylinder bolts

The one I have came from B&Q but is basically the same. It is great for sanding and grinding those awkward places like the bolt in a wheel cylinder. This one is great value too as I'm sure I paid more for mine a year or two ago.

    Newbie back again

There is no anti roll bar in the rear so they just cocked up and sent the wrong thing.

I use a power finger file to grind the heads off wheel cylinder bolts. Only takes a couple of minutes and no swearing required. Something like this will save hours of grief. https://ebay.us/8BV6CX
