    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

My daughter has been riding ponies and horses for almost 20 years now so we have a fair bit of experience towing horse boxes and although we never calculated it scientifically the fuel consumption suffered a LOT. We now have a converted van and it is much easier on fuel than towing a trailer...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

A lot of this will be guesstimating but probably not too far from the truth. I used 20V to drive 15.5 miles and was towing the trailer for half of that distance. Normally I would have used around 15V to drive those miles as I started at 390V. So if we say 7.5 miles dropped the voltage by 7.5V...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

I would really love to do that but while I'm not working full time I always shy away from financing anything and the depreciation on new cars is just to much for me. Have you considered getting something a year or so old on a lease or a demonstration model? It might save quite a few £k's Can...

Are you talking new or used? The waiting list for Kia and Hyundai EV's used to be stupidly long but I'm not sure now. I know they are kind of 'Marmite' but I love Tesla's. The Model 3 would not be practical for me as I need an estate or hatch but the Model Y would be perfect. Just too expensive...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Who says you can't tow with an EV? Sadly no photo's as it was ****ing down at the time but today I used the Freelander EV to tow a big heavy horse box with a couple hundred kilos of hay on board. OK I maybe couldn't have towed it very far but it worked perfectly for the few miles I needed. It...

F1's are getting more and more rare to see on the roads.

    Freelander 1 VCU testing

Yes I would try to turn it by hand using suitable large screwdrivers or similar. It shouldn't be easy but should be possible. You still have the other one to compare it too.

So after checking out ebay and several online sellers I went with LR Direct. They had good prices for the parts but more importantly did not charge stupid money for delivery to NI. I'm not looking forward to the fight involved in getting the old hub bolt out but that's a problem for next week...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

So the plan for today was to adjust the tracking to try and get the steering wheel straight and all the wheels pointing in the right direction and I failed miserably. 🥺 I figured I'd start with the rear wheel so jacked it up and with some difficulty managed to loosen the nuts on the rear track...

I think I've discovered why the steering wheel is 1/4 turned when driving straight and the car pulls a little. Drivers side front towing out Drivers side rear towing in The passenger side looks OK with the rear being straight and the front towing in a little so I'll have a go at sorting...

Buffeting wind noise with 1 window open

I have wind deflectors on my front windows but I haven't tried driving with a rear window down. They probably wouldn't make any difference but I'll give it a try and report back however mine is a 2004 FL1 so probably not Representative. Have you tried cracking open the boot window? Can you do...

Every car I ever had was the same, open one rear window and the noise is deafening.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Rustoleum paint is pretty hard wearing, I've used this one a lot over the years. https://ebay.us/n4loGD It's available in lots of colours but from what I've seen the gloss is tougher than satin.

Thanks mate, I have to admit I am chuffed to bits to have got it working and every time I overcome an issue it gives me a real feeling of achievement. If it was easy everyone would do it (probably! 😋). If I had no clue why the issue happened I would be much more concerned. ;)

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Yes mate. I now have the ignition providing 12V for both the coil of the latching relay and the latching contacts. Originally I had connected the latching contact to 12V permanent. 😮 I think this meant the relay stayed latched on after I turned off the ignition then back fed 12V through the...

I had to make the phone call of shame today. Followed by the tow of shame. 😢 Then the final push of shame. 😭 I was driving in slow moving traffic when I heard a bang, when I opened the bonnet I saw smoke pouring out of the HV junction box. 😮 There was no fire but something had obviously...
