    restricted byway?

I think not: Ramblers Association - Footpaths - Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 Restricted Byways were what used to be called 'RUPPs' - Road Used as Public Path, but this was an ambiguous name and never clear about whether vehicles were allowed. So the guvmint turned them all to...

Best diesel conversion for a SIII?

A friend of mine says he really rates the PSA XUD (peugeot/citroen) engine - and if he had a Landy he'd think about popping one in. I'm not sure if that's even possible or easy or what.... Linkage: PSA XUD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Turn key, turn!

First time I stopped in mine I pulled the knob out and then pushed it back in again, and then couldn't get the key out! Fiddled with it for a while before pulling the knob out again which released the key. So you can't take the keys out without pulling the knob and stopping your engine. Thanks...

    Turn key, turn!

Yeah, tis a 1983 Series 3. Keyhole is on the left of the steering column with a cut-off pull-switch just next to it. Ooh, is it a steering lock too? Should I just jiggle the steering wheel when I turn the key? If so, then I'm doing it unconsciously most of the time...

    Turn key, turn!

After filling up with diesel this morning, and sitting on the forecourt ready to go, I couldn't turn my key. I jiggled it, wiggled it, stuck it in and out a few times, prodded the cutoff knob - nothing. Wouldn't budge. I'm not sure what eventually happened, but I must have said some prayer to...

    Gear Selection / gate

Its taken me a bit of time to reliably find first on my S3 - I was going over into reverse sometimes. Push left, hit the gate carefully, and then just back central a touch and then up. On my learner car it was hard left and hard up for first gear, with a locking ring for reverse. Ah, I was...

    New baby...

Yes, I've now got my S3! Woohoo. My first car! A 1983 88" Station Wagon from Liveridge 4x4 conveniently close to my parents' place in Redditch, where I am now with "Boo" (for that is her name) parked on the drive next to my Dad's Renault. Thanks for whoever suggested Liverpool Vic insurance -...

    off road site

As a treat for passing my driving test (last year at the ripe old age of 40) some friends of mine paid for me to have a go at a 4x4 place in Cumbria. It was the one thing that kept me doing lessons, knowing that I'd be off-roading as soon as I passed my test. Then the guy there didn't bother...

Things no Landy should be without.

Oh what jolly lights. Anyone looking for the authentic Lightweight Army LR First Aid box might want one of these: Footwear, at Gr-Rd Taylor - BRITISH ARMY "LAND ROVER" FIRST AID TIN (EMPTY) Just not sure why its in the 'Footwear' section. I was just looking for jerry cans and ammo boxes.

    SIII insurance

At my age I know thats not true anymore! Shame my 30 years of bicycling don't count - I've had one smidsy ("Sorry mate I didn't see you") hit me which bent my back wheel, and one broken elbow when falling off cos my front fork broke. That's road experience for you! Just got a real good online...

    SIII insurance

So esure are saying they think you're going to cause over 3000 pounds worth of damage to other people's cars in your first year of motoring! If I paid that much for 3rd party insurance I'd be driving like a dodgem car just to get my money's worth...

    Ensis oil........

Yes, but it also says its used on oilrigs - which are metal structures that produce large quantities of oil... So that rules in series vehicles

    SIII insurance

Confucious.com (no hang on thats the chinese philosopher) confused.com lists the AA as 'Unable to quote for more than 5 seats' - spose thats okay for your pickup but not for my 6-seater station wagon  I suppose I'll have to try and find a wife with some points on her license, but I think...

    SIII insurance

I already live in Lancaster... Oh, you mean the insurance company :) Yeah, they came up pretty high on dazed-and-confused.com (oh no, thats a Led Zeppelin track), so I shall try calling to see if they can do better... I think I can just squeeze a SWB Landy into my back yard so I can tell them...

    SIII insurance

I suppose if I'd passed my driving test 20 years ago and not waited this long then I reckon I wouldn't be paying that much. There can't be much data on new Landy-driving 40-year olds (the midlife-crisis vehicle of choice being a slightly more sporty number, I imagine) so I was expecting a bit...

    SIII insurance

And then another friend of mine says 'Don't believe those ads in the Landy mags that say they can do cheap specialist land rover cover'. I don't know who to believe  There was an article in LRM about a 17 year old kid who seems to have built his own souped-up off-roader Landy from scratch...

    SIII insurance

So I tried confused.com to get an idea of the kind of price its going to be to insure me, and first I'm surprised at the range - from around 300 to 1500. Yikes. Are insurers so bad at assessing my risk that they differ by a factor of five? And then I try Sureterm, as mentioned by someone in...

    New S3 owner

Well, I originally learnt to drive in a 1953 Morris Minor (in 1983), so I had the joys of double-declutching, torsion bar suspension, and of course rust, to deal with then. Hopefully I'll only have rust to deal with in Boo (yes, she's got a name already). I relearnt and passed with BSM in a...

    New S3 owner

Well, I finally did it. At age 41, after passing my driving test only last year, I've got a Land Rover. My first car. Its a SWB S3 station wagon with the standard diesel, overdrive, FWH. Currently Liveridge4x4 are sorting out the little problems with it (some new springs, new door) but then...
