    engine check light

Hey As far as I'm aware it doesn't measure pressure, its just a variable reluctance sensor, something metallic moves inside the injector when the diesel flows which excites the VR sensor and you'll get a small AC waveform out of it, this will then be amplified/conditioned in the ECU and a DC...

300tdi Auto Check Engine Light sounds rattly

Right so I've changed - MAF Unplugged Crank sensor / Needle lift sensor / Coolant sensor / TPS Problem still remains, upon unplugging the crank sensor, needle lift, coolant and TPS check engine light comes on and stays on all the time which I guess is expected...

Just as an update got a replacement (second hand) MAF from ebay... checked it with mmeter and resistance now changes when you push the flap open so its doing more than my previous one. However fault still remains. Presuming now its the TPS sensor however unsure as to how the engine actually...

    engine check light

Presuming its a 300 tdi EDC Auto? Not sure if the earlier ones had a "check engine light" as they had no ECU? The EDC takes input from - MAF (and the thermister inside MAF for intake temp.) Throttle potentiometer Boost pressure sensor Injector 4 Needle lift...

    airbag/non-airbag

I'd very much doubt the sensors etc.. are there nor the air bag control module - is it really worth the bother? Why not just fit the dash but just not wire in the airbag? In all honesty, in a disco 1 in a front end collision... whats an airbag going to bring to the party? They aren't renowned...

300tdi Auto Check Engine Light sounds rattly

Hi Colin Thing is when the check engine light comes on the engine goes into limp mode... you can tell this because it struggles to get up the hills until i take my foot off the accelerator, causing the check engine light to go off and then i get power back until it comes on again! Matt

300tdi Auto Check Engine Light sounds rattly

Another question (sorry!)... I'm confused as to whether I've got an EDC or a none-EDC auto - reason being is its got a MAF, a check engine light and a boost pressure sensor on the bulkhead which I believe are all EDC components. However the injector pump appears to have a throttle cable on it...

Thanks, I'm going to get a second hand MAF this week hopefully and a tps so will swap them out and hopefully *fingers crossed* all will be well again.

300tdi Auto Check Engine Light sounds rattly

Is there any specifications anywhere to say that the sensors have to be within a certain range? I guess with the crank sensor I can take out my scope and view the waveform, presume its a VR sensor with x number of teeth on the flywheel (like 60 teeth with 1 missing). I just went out and...

300tdi Auto Check Engine Light sounds rattly

Hey Funnily enough I was just under the dash 5 mins ago looking at the TPS... figure its the large round device thats on top of the throttle pedal? I cleaned up the terminals on the MAF and looking at the circuit diagram, the MAF has two components inside, a thermister (pins 1 and 4) -...

First thing I did was to blank off the EGR valve, so thats not present anymore. Aye seen a second hand MAF on ebay for £30 - just hope its working!

300tdi Auto Check Engine Light sounds rattly

Thanks guys. How easy is it to check the timing? Paul - what should happen if the MAF is unplugged? I took the vehicle to a local landrover garage and he suggested that the MAF is not needed and is part of the EGR setup, but I'm not so sure, my understanding is the MAF sends back to the ecu...

300tdi Auto Check Engine Light sounds rattly

Still got this problem.. the 300tdi is sounding like a tractor pretty much all the time now... it does occasionally go "smooth" (no rattle/knocking) but then it starts rattling again. I've bled the fuel system using the bleed screw/lift pump - fuel comes out under pressure when i use the lift...

Next problem! Boost can be heard from glovebox

Aye I know... definately no black smoke but was down on power today, I'm not 100% my MAF is working correctly, doesnt seem to make any difference if its plugged in or not. The crimps in the 4 pin connector were completely corroded (all green and fury) so I've crimped a replacement connector on...

Next problem! Boost can be heard from glovebox

Found problem, elbow hose from rear of turbo delaminated and split. Temporarily fixed with duct tape! Until can get a replacement hose tomorrow. Strange how it sounded "in" the cabin! Guess things are deceptive.. glad I didnt take the dash out looking for it! Thanks for your help, Matt.

Next problem! Boost can be heard from glovebox

Im not sure why all these problems are happening at once! Today I attempted to get the cruise control module working and found the usual split hoses (goes behind the engine to a t-piece, then to a diaphragm and a switch on the brake pedal). For whatever reason now when the turbo spools up I can...

    Turbo on an 300tdi auto

Hi On my 300tdi auto when you floor it on kick down you can feel the boost up to about 3200rpm then it almost seems to go off boost for a second or so and then boosts back up and continues revving around to about 4500 where the autobox changes up. Is this surge in power normal on them or have...

300tdi Auto Check Engine Light sounds rattly

Well I removed the diesel filter and checked it over... couldnt see any problem with it, but put it back on and made sure it was nice and tight. I unplugged the MAF at the same time, took the disco for a spin... guess what! No problem anymore, its smoooth as silk but was a bit down on power...
