Compared to a series 1 the 2 handles very well, even without ACE. When I test drove mine I assumed it had ACE, but the lack of a warning light and no air pipes on front chassis members proved me wrong. Mine was a 2001 on a Y plate.

Check where the rear quarter panel bolts to the sill panel (where the bottoms of the rear doors would normally be). These can rot out and leave the rear quarter flapping about which might not be too apparent as the plastic sill finisher holds it in place (and hides the rot). Front seat frames...

It's on top of the gearbox near the gear lever. I saw it recently when I changed the 3rd / 4th syncroniser plate and springs. Not sure if you have to remove the console etc and get to it from the top as the local specialist did when they replaced switch on my first disco, or if you can get to it...

My 2001 Adventurer wasn't fitted with ACE. It wasn't standard fit on that model and I have no idea if it was an option. The easiest way to tell if it's fitted is by looking for the ACE warning light on the dash when you switch ignition on.

Trouble with the 300Tdi is the temp sender is high in the system and if the level drops too far it isn't actually in any liquid at all! So, gauge can read normal with little or no coolant in the system........BANG!

Was it definately smoke and not steam? Mine had steam coming from vents when the heater matrix first started to leak. This was followed by a very wet floor soon afterwards!

Yes, lack of time meant I got my local specialist to do the job. I dropped it off in the morning and it wasn't ready until the next day........... not cheap!

Have you checked the throttle cable at the throttle end? Mine used to unwind itself on the adjuster giving me about 1/4 throttle. I made up a clip to hold in in place and it was cured.

So the verdict was that front seats from for example a '97 5-door won't fit straight onto the mechanism on a '97 3-door? Sorry to bring back an old thread but I'm thinking of putting a half leather set into mine.

I've noticed series II chassis seem to suffer from rust. I had a 2001 Td5 in between my 300 Tdi's and the chassis on that was nowhere near as clean as either of the earlier cars. Most of the paint had flaked off the rear end of the chassis. Bodywork was a different matter.......

No, standard 205's. It's more of a groaning noise than anything and it still does it if at a stand still. It's nowhere near as bad on my current Disco, but that does have over 30k fewer miles on it than the last one.

Mine does this too. Not as bad as my last one did though. As you say, only happens at parking speed usually when turning lock to lock. Also I'm sure it does it more in reverse?!?! There's no play in the steering system and my local specialist gave it a clean bill of health at last service so I'm...

Don't bother welding it, the part is only £3.60 from the dealer!! Take the opportunity to replace the springs at the same time, one is 75p and the other 80p. I replaced mine last week and the difference is amazing.

Thanks for the advice. I have purchased some TD5 headlamps and have decided to keep the original indicators/finishers. Also bought some EGR lamp protectors to preserve the new lamps. BTW, Formula4 are doing Series I Disco (300) EGR covers for £19 + P&P reduced from about £35.
