A nice dilemma - advice please

Oh hell, now I've turned into 'Dave', the Fast Show character who couldn't make his mind up about anything. We've been for a walk this morning and looked at some of the local Land Rovers (there are around a dozen) scattered about our village. Out of the blue, my wife said perhaps I ought to go...

Thanks as always folks. The warranty will be from Land Rover (ie the manufacturer) themselves as it will be a brand new vehicle Pumpy. Have you asked Honest John about your warranty problems: Honest John I've always found him very helpful indeed. I've done the measuring today and I'm very...

A nice dilemma - advice please

An update is in order today folks. We had a decent 45 minute test drive of a 110 XS Station Wagon yesterday. We drove about 28 miles, including some motorway and a decent A road. I have to say it was different from anything I've driven recently, but I liked it very much. My wife was daunted by...

Thanks folks. Barring disaster on Friday (or 'domestic goddess' reality intervention...), photos will be posted in due course.

A nice dilemma - advice please

I spent some time at my local LR dealer today. I had a look round and sit in a 90 hard top van they had in the showroom, and I'm having a two hour test drive in their 110 XS Station Wagon demonstrator (they don't have the basic van I'm after) on Friday. Amazingly, I was in the market for one...

Mrs JtheP's absolutely wonderful I can assure you. She's been brilliant about this and I don't want to kick the botty out of the arrangement. The van is the one I want. If it was to be a vehicle for pleasure rather than purely as my work vehicle, I'd be looking for a much older one.

A nice dilemma - advice please

Thanks for that. Mine, if I go for it, will only be the 'van' (ie solid hard top, three door) version, so it won't have too many luxuries as they can start to cost quite a lot extra and that might cause slight "domestic grumbling".

A nice dilemma - advice please

Thanks as always folks. I think a few of you have got me bang to rights - I do want a new one. The depreciation isn't really going to be a problem unless I come to sell it in the first few years of ownership. I intend it to last as my work vehicle for at least 15 years, which is why a new one...

A nice dilemma - advice please

Thanks folks, this is all very helpful. I had a look at a new 90 at a dealer today and it hasn't put me off (far from it in fact). They couldn't tell me if the factory can offer the galvanised parts, however they doubted it. I've enquired of Liveridge and with them supplying exactly what you've...

A nice dilemma - advice please

Thanks Nigel. Does anyone know if it's possible to have a new one built with a galvanised chassis and bulkhead from the factory as a special order? I'll ask LR directly next week, but I just wondered if anyone was able to tell me today.

Thanks Steve. The biggest problem with the galvanised rebuild route seems to be finding one for sale. No doubt if someone does it, they intend to hang on to it.

Thanks for all the replies folks. I'm still pondering....

A nice dilemma - advice please

Thanks folks. The only trouble with a 2 year old I suppose is it may already have started rusting, which is somewhat hard to stop. Kleentect look interesting, except sadly they mention they use Waxoyl, which I've found over the years doesn't work for long compared to modern alternatives.

A nice dilemma - advice please

Thanks chaps. I like the idea of being able to add my own rust proofing to a car that has just been built rather than to one that's seen a couple of winters, how ever well it's been looked after. Bilt Hamber have probably become rich protecting my old cars! As I intend to keep it until I...

A nice dilemma - advice please

Hi Folks, When I joined the Forum a few weeks ago, I was intending to try to get a used 110 hard top to replace my existing van as my work vehicle. I'm 50 next year, and my marvellous wife has agreed that if I'm absolutely sure it's what I want, I can have a brand new one. I've never had a...

    Prospective purchase, opinions please?

Thanks for that, I'd not found them so far. The white one in my original post is apparently sold incidentally.

Thanks for this, but I never go to London with my work (and never would) so LEZ won't be a concern.

    Prospective purchase, opinions please?

Thanks, I'm near Leicester so those firms not too far away, but if there are any more local ones to me, I'd appreciate the heads up. I've tried quite a bit of searching on here this morning and perhaps I'm putting in the wrong terms, but I've not really found much so far. Again, thanks all for...
