Defender GU02ZSL - ncp "secure" airport carpark

Is there no CCTV at the car park? at the very least on the exit and entry? Am i correct in thinking that the only way to start a TD5 without the key is to either fit a reprogrammed ECU or use a diagnostic computer to get the emergency code? either way it's not a quick job to start on up...

    how many are gone.

When mine got nicked there was some info that suggested they had been taken to the Kettering area, and the policeman investigating liaised with Northampton police who told him that they were having one land rover a week stolen down there and so far hadn't found a single one, that's 50 a year...

    derbyshire police

Ah, but how many were actually stolen vehicles, and how many had 'identity discrepancies'? ie. they were enthusiast vehicles that had been built from a number of donors, or were dodgy 'tax exempt' 90s. I very much doubt that the majority stolen land rovers are being driven round in this...

Stolen from ascot last night l33rpm green 110

I'm told by a mate that exports a lot of stuff to Africa and the Middle East, that you have to give a full inventory of the container's contents, including all chassis numbers etc. Customs check one in five at random, any discrepancies on the check and they confiscate everything in the container...

Stolen from ascot last night l33rpm green 110

No news on mine either, i lost two a couple of months back on the same night. Along with about three grands worth of tools and fencing gear that wasn't insured, (thanks for that, NFU). The only lead i had on those was that one item that was in one of the land rovers turned up on ebay a few...

Solution to the problem , maybe

Who ever is stealing the land rovers, i doubt their plans involve filming them and putting the videos on you tube. more likely that they're sticking them in containers and shipping them to Africa, or inside curtain siders to go by road to eastern Europe. There are significant problems all...

Stolen from ascot last night l33rpm green 110

I don't think they're cutting them up, i think the stolen 90s are probably loaded up into a curtain sider or tilt and shipped off to Eastern Europe. there's a strong export trade for 300's and TDCi's to Eastern europe at the moment.

Why did you get it back? was it not stolen after all?

Wokingham, Berkshire - THEFT OF DEFENDER 90

Indeed, it could be that they travel further afield as they 'run out' of easy pickings in their usual hunting grounds. i think that there are organised gangs processing the vehicles who are using druggies and other petty criminals to actually do the thieving for them. Someone is making a...

    rolling tax exemption...

that's not going to happen though, is it? Just as everyone isn't going to stop paying income tax or council tax. No one likes paying tax, but if you use the road, surely you have to contribute to the upkeep of it? why should you be exempt from your share because you're driving a car over 20...

    URGENT: Theft Of Land Rover's

I though t it sounded a bit too cheap, i was having difficulty finding any one selling a 'proper' one though. What about one of these? MUDSTUFF.CO.UK, Meck Lock Anti Theft System, Land Rover Defender Solutions: West Yorkshire Sounds a good idea but a bit pricey.

    ..is it a bitza..???

They've used the ID of a pre 1971 landrover to register the vehicle on. This is very east to do with land rover, the id is a chassis plate that screws to the bulkhead, you put that on another vehicle and take it for MOT, hey presto, your 300TDI 90 is now tax exempt, and because land rovers are...

    Stolen, two defenders staffordshire

Cheers. Had the insurance assessor round yesterday, he was an ex policeman who's going round to all NFU claim to verify that everything's above board. he told me that he's never been busier in the midland with farm / rural based thefts, it's at epidemic proportions. it's thought that there is...

that's the seller in the ebay link i posted. he seemed nice enough on the phone, but searching this forum he gets some mixed reviews. i shan't be rushing into buying any replacements yet, especially as i'm still haggling over the price of the old ones with the insurance. and you never know, they...

    TD5, what was it worth?

Hi chaps, you may have read on one of the other sections of this forum that i had both my land rovers stolen last week. Been speaking to the insurance valuer today, and he's offered me £5500 for the 300TDI county, which was virtually identical to this one: Land Rover Defender 90 300 Tdi...

    water logged engine!! Whoops

The pistons will still go up and down, but if you drew water into the combustion chamber instead of air and fuel, as the piston came up it would try to compress the water, but liquids don't compress in the same way gasses do, something has to give and it's usually the conrod, which bends under...

    Stolen, two defenders staffordshire

that's a very good question. the land rovers must either be exported, or be cut up for spares, but someone must be towing your ifor trailer round somewhere, either knowing it's nicked or oblivious, having bought it in good faith. I'm told that a lot of the plant type stuff, quads, ifor...
