    Disco 4 -potential purchase

Good point. The 12 plate seems to have over and above done since the main dealer service finished. No expense spared. I will have more of an idea of today when I go and see it. So functionality and reliability wise, not much in the gearboxes?

    Disco 4 -potential purchase

Dvla states the power figures are 245 for 11 plate and 255 for later, so I assume an engine tweak. The other difference must be gearbox then. Either the 6 speed or the 8 speed later one. I understand they are both the zf but the later being updated and using the gear selection knob. Has...

That seems to be the way my mechanic mate says. Better handbrake module apparently. As well as being nearly two years newer. Which has to be of some benefit. Certainly never off roaded looking at it. Unlike my 90. Lol £2k difference better though?

Thank you. Nothing simple is there. It just isn't clear is it?

They are both coming up as the 3.0 litre D4 so are they both the same engine just with a different gearbox. The latter being the 8 speed and the older being the 6 speed.

    Disco 4 -potential purchase

I went to look at the later 12 plate which has full service history and all the belts done at 91K miles. However, I am now confused. This one is the SDV6 with the turn knob thingy for the gear selection (it must have a proper name) However, the one I was going to look at tomorrow has the more...

    Disco 4 -potential purchase

Hello all. It’s been a while since posting on the forum. It’s usually been about my 90, but here I find myself asking about the Disco 4. We have had a 1,2 missed the 3 and have jumped straight to looking at a 4. It seems to fit the bill for what we need with the dogs and kids ( or the other...

    Chassis Info check please

Hmm. My Mini is about 10% rust free so only 10% to go before I have nothing to hang the subframes off. Lol. i do hope that is twin pipes with the V8

    Chassis Info check please

That’s a great reply. Thanks for taking the time to copy and paste detail, too. Surely you are not suggesting that Craddock’s are over hyping. It’s a good point and common sense. How would such as the GTO you mentioned ever see the light of day. Still i may best look at delaying ordering for as...

    Chassis Info check please

Yes I Googled first. Googeling sounds fun, though. I wonder why the Craddock’s staff member was so adamant? He is one of the more experienced chaps. Still, it may galvanise me into getting one soon, if you will excuse the pun.

    Chassis Info check please

Hello all. I have been absent for a while whilst dismantling my 90. It's been a longer process than it should have been. (I did buy a Jimny to fill the gap...that's another story) I was in Craddock's the other day enquiring about buying a galv chassis. They told me that unless I buy one soon I...

    Time to galvanise?

Thanks. I will pop down to Craddocks later and just see what their prices are. It’s a trek from me to Devon but if it’s a good saving then prob worth it. the only reviews on Shielder chassis seem to be older ones. Maybe they have improved

What to look for when buying?

Keep us posted. Just make sure you have a good tool kit. As mentioned, mechanicals are easy. Generally. You don't to be welding yet.

    Time to galvanise?

Just spoke to a lovely chap at Terraintech who do Marsland and Shielder so has no bias. He reckons the Shielder at £2k are fine for most purposes snd the Marsland at £2.5k better if doing shows etc. A valid point he made that and body of 30+ yrs old may need some fettling to fit regardless...

What to look for when buying?

Still go td or tdi. Best thing to do is try examples of both and decide for yourself. Tyres will make a big diff too.

Do you really want an NA one?

Replacing the rear tub to crossmember support rail.

Should end up like this. I took mine off at the weekend. Not that many bolts. More on the seat box section.

    Time to galvanise?

Any recommendations as to where to get a chassis in the West Mids? It would be nice to go and have a look and see.

    Time to galvanise?

It may be my imagination but have Marsland chassis gone up in price during lockdown? May have to look at Richards.

    Time to galvanise?

I finally got the back end off to reveal what I thought was likely. Yep, lots of rust and holes in difficult to access places. So, although it is always repairable, I think the bullet will have to be well and truly bit and look for a galv chassis in earnest. With Craddocks 5 mins away, I may see...
