    Consodering a Freelander? advice please?

You mean its not obvious? Why do we have to go through this ritual time and time again? Someone comes on here who is considering buying a Freelander. They know nothing about them and, hey guess what, they don't want to do anything without their eyes open. Good on him I'd say. Then...

Buying original equipment is a good policy - NOT!!

I don't Effin well believe this. Now I've got grinding noises as the front on-side suspension actions. Guess where this drop link is!!! Had a quick look this evening and its not the bottom ball joint. Going to have another look tomorrow evening....

Oh no, not another tyre question.

Well, to finish off this thread. Firstly the drop link has been replaced so hopefully that is the end of that. And finally, on the tyre front, Hippo now sports four Michelin Latitude Cross - 195/80R15 96T. Some good news to this is that they were 25% off and I've got a £40 fuel voucher...

    Tailgate unlocking.

Copied my replay from an older post: I've had this problem. Here's what I did. With the back window down, if you operate the handle you should here a double click from the direction of the drivers seat. Thats the release relay in the CCU. What happened on mine was the wire for the lock...

Buying original equipment is a good policy - NOT!!

Sorted!! Put the old one back on last night (lucky I didn't bin it). Took the new but duff one back at lunch time. Ah, they agreed, the rubber has perished!! Here's a new one. This one is a different make and bears the name of Quinton Hazel. Now that worries me as the previous one could...

    Freelander Belt Change

Get a powered impact driver on the case, that'll shift it.

Oh no, not another tyre question.

Well, gave them a call this morning. They were not too happy about me wanting a replacement but couldn't really say 'no'. Then I tried it on a bit. Could I have the new one first, then bring the old one in the next day after I've swapped it. The answer was 'No'. So how am I supposed to take...

ur gonna laugh ur ass off!!!!!

Oh dear!! Sounds like you were lucky there mate but is a lesson well learnt. My Hippo was in the garage the other day for work on the air con. They leant me a Rover 214 with a K series so I could get the mile or so to work and back to the garage to retrieve the Hippo at the end of the...

how often will the VCU & IRD go wronge??

Tams, something is not setup right on the back axle of your car by the sound of things. My 2000 L series has got 35,000 miles out of a set of tyres and they're not finished yet. The only abnormal wear is due to the effects of roundabouts. The rear suspension setup on a Freelander is not...

    Difficulty selecting 1st and Reverse

The problem I had, and by the sound of it Meagson is having too, is that the clutch is not fully disengaging. With the engines drive still getting through to the gearbox the synchomesh is rendered useless and gear engagement becomes difficult if not impossible. This is not a failing in the...

Thought this one had gone away, until tonight. In my tyre thread I mentioned changing the tyres over tonight and in the process I discovered the top gattor of this new link was split totally in two. That ain't going to last long now. Receipt at the ready for the morning. Could be...

Oh no, not another tyre question.

Fitted said tyres tonight. No problems with them. Evaluated the wear and fitted the most tread to the back. It was easy to see which ones had been on the front. The fifth tyre is the interesting one. They have obviously been used on rock, or something adbrasive like that and number 5 is...

Oh no, not another tyre question.

Right, took the plunge. Thanks to a fellow Landyzone member (Thanks mate :D) I now have a set of Goodyear Wranglers MT/R 215/65R16 on alloy hubs. Pleased with that. They are used and a little chewed but theres plenty of life left in them plus I now have a set of 16" alloys to play with...

No reason to be a stranger. Stick around, you might get the Freelander bug again :D.

    Front left Suspension clunk

I have had the top joint on the drop link go loose. Causes an intermittent cluck on uneven roads. Get some one to rock the car side to side while you get under the front and watch the joints. You'll sone spot the duff one. Cost me 42 quid for a replacement, although you can get them a lot...

how often will the VCU & IRD go wronge??

Hummmm, I assume they mean that the tyres have worn on the inside edge, ie the edge of the tyre against the struts. Thats not transmission casusing that, that's camber error. Still, its not a bad thing to check the VCU is not the problem first as the damage that could be caused is scary.

    Freelander handling problem

In that case I would suspect tracking. Thanks for the update Chris and happy freelandering.
