    Freelander power problems.

I'm wondering if the hissing fuel tank is due to the fuel vapour management, designed to stop petrol vapours getting to atmosphere. Given the description of your problem I would start with the butterfly valve position sensor.

£76 each for the rear doors. Don't yet know for the drivers door but its going to be more. :(

    Darmain's central locking misery

Well, first lock fitted today. Result!! Door working normally again, but what is noticable is the lock is so much faster than the passenger door, which is the only door not affected. Shows that all the locks have degraded with wear. More locks coming on Monday. Credit card has run out the...

    rush of air noise

It's the induction system leaking for sure. Check the pipe from turbo to intercooler and intercooler to manifold. They are know to split, mine is on its second top pipe. Also check the unions between pipes and intercooler are sound.

    Freelander 1 L-Series auxiliary belt

Don't see why you should pay the postage now, they cocked up, not you. Stand your ground with them.

    freelander 1.8 issue screeching tyres

Check your VCU isn't siezed. Check your tyre pressures are balanced. Check that the lease worn tyres are on the back axle. Ideally make sure you have the same tyre makes on each axle and at best the same tyre make all round. Under ideal conditions, when driving in a straight line the front...

    2WD or not to 2WD

Am I right in saying the the series land rovers are selectable 4x4, where as the newer models are all full time? Personally I think the Freelander handles so much better in 4x4. If every thing is set up correctly then the rear drive doesn't do a great deal as the front wheels pull the car...

    Darmain's central locking misery

:D As I've already done a few locking system repairs I've got the knack of it now. Trouble was with the passenger side rear lock. The sodding bolts wouldn't budge. Ended up trying to rattle them off but ended up trashing the screw head and the torx bit. Now got screws on order too.

Is this a first for a Freelander?

Sounds like a good result then. Good stuff. I hope it says that way. :D

My first breakdown - won't start.

I think there have been one or two problems with the K series fuel pumps. The TD4 is well know for dropping fuel pumps. The K series sticks in the mind with Head Gasket Failure, for some reason... Anyway, good result.

    Freelander Transmission?

YES, get it investigated. You could try looking underneath first just in case there is a more obvious reason. For example, it is not unknown for the protective casing to come off the VCU and flap around on the drive shaft. However it could be a more serious problem which if you continue...

Is this a first for a Freelander?

:D:D:D:D Here hippo, did you delete the fault codes and then stand there waiting for new ones to appear, without starting or driving the car. :D:D:D:D Sorry, I'm in a funny mood this evening, could do with a drink I think!!

    2WD or not to 2WD

This old debate again. Is it still factory spec?, Will the insurance still cover it, will it pass its MOT. At the end of the day, its a 4x4 and it handles like crap in 2WD mode. My L-series gets me 450 miles to the tank full of diesel, well 53-55 litres anyway and it transmission is factory...

    Freelander 1 L-Series auxiliary belt

Good work Hippo. Keep to the genuine parts if you can. I changed my aux belt recently. Power steering still slips occationally and there is a good reason. The belt is only contacting about 20-25% of the pump pulley by design. Great considering that this also drives the coolant pump.....

    clunking noise..

Well, it could a several things. Ultimately something moved that normally shouldn't. Get it on the lift, undertray off and have a look. Things that I would check for starters. Lower engine strap. Front driveshafts and CV's Central shaft knuckle joint VCU bearings Rear diff mounts (it...

Just Bought A 1998 Land Rover Freelander 2.0 Xe Di

I suspect that if the drivers door lock is designed the same way as the two rear door locks then its worn out, not come loose. Get it replaced. Its £100 worth of parts alone. If you look out for my thread on Darmans Central Locking problems then in a short while I will report my findings on...

    Freelander 1 L-Series auxiliary belt

I think you will find that people on here have a problem with Britpart, period!! You clearly have the wrong belt. Simple as. Send it back and get a belt that isn't Britpart. There are reports on here where the aux belt snapped on an L-series, tore threw the timing belt cover, taking the...

    Darmain's central locking misery

Oh well!! Phoned the garage today. Got the prices and also discovered that he had one lock on the shelf, the rest to order in. So I've got a rear, passenger side lock to fit. Cost? Well, not much change out of 80 sheets. :(
