after completing my work on the rear diff I took the defender for a quick run this morning and all seems fine, no funny noises or unusual rattles etc.. However this evening I opened the bonnet to make a start on the service and noticed the oil cap is missing. There was not loads of oil...

I was up and under the defender at 6:50am this morning to re-connect the rear prop then refill the axle oil, also checked the breather so fingers crossed all should be leak free on the rear axle! Just be puddle of oil in a different area now!! Going to take it for a quick spin then little later...

well I managed to get most of the paint off!! one blob on my face needed the razor this morning!! white spirit may have been nicer.

Well my identity crisis continues!! Just received the new flange and it's the multi spline type not the 4 splines like mine. To be fair I should have waited until I got it off before I ordered then I could have called them and checked first, but I put all the correct details in to the website...

I have a new flange on the way I was more worried if it would have done any damage on the diff?

Looking at the old flange is the pitting on the shaft anything to worry about? I'm replacing the flange but wondered if it points to any other problem?

I think the seal has been put in with cement!! I have found the inside lip I've got the biggest screwdriver / lever on it and it won't budge!! Having a rest for the rest of the day !!
