Plucking up the courage... Head gasket and cambelt

Now that's a Q, stripping it fully down, skim and pressure test on the head, rebored and a skim on the block as it's a tad rusty on it around the waterways, there are replacing all the parts except shaft and con rods.

James is the man to answer that question lol as this is till all new to me, I'm not sure what there doing with the bores James I was just asked to get the +0.40 sized pistons as he couldn't get them for the price I could, I was going to do it myself as I thought it was just the pistons but after...

Plucking up the courage... Head gasket and cambelt

They'll be able to tell you that easy, this is all new to me also after finding out my engine is damaged, not sure how mine happened also :)

Give Turner Engineering a call and they will point you in the right direction regarding parts, I recently done a full rebuild and sourced nearly all parts from them, fantastic service and very knowledgable.

Any DIY way to check them? Engine rebuild has skinned me so far :)

Plucking up the courage... Head gasket and cambelt

I had a slightly warped head on mine, bent push rods, cracked pistons and it was mainly due to timing belt snap and over heating, I would get your blocked checked also before you put a new head on it.

    Timing belt

On a side note which belt do you recommend, people seem to say that I can't go wrong with Draco belt but the kits seem to come with brit part pulleys ect.

It's snowing in the Welsh hills

It's amazing how many people don't know how to drive in the snow properly
  14. RodneyA

    Why do expensive?

I was looking at the price of the engine lifting bracket and some places are quoting around £90 for just the front one, why is a little bit of metal so expensive.

    Breaking in a rebuilt engine.

Will do, I'll take the long route to the MOT station :)

    Breaking in a rebuilt engine.

Sadly I've no MOT at the moment to drive it, it is safe just caring the idle speed for a little bit just to bed it in a tad pre mot

    Breaking in a rebuilt engine.

Is it MOT passable after a rebuild or will the emission be all shot for a while?
  18. RodneyA

    Breaking in a rebuilt engine.

I'm due to get my engine back in the next week and I was wondering what's the best way to bed in my engine, 2.5NAD. I will be asking the engineer what his recommendation is but is there any set way for land rover engines? The only hard part for me is that the vehicle has no MOT yet so can't...
