P38 going up to the scrapper in the sky

Just in case anyone was wondering, no there was no signs of rust/corrosion in the tailgate.

P38 going up to the scrapper in the sky

Well just to add to the muttering. It had/has 9 months MOT, (never even had an advisory in the 5 years I've had it) and tax to April. On the minus side, it was too high for the dog to jump up in to, the blower fan was noisey, had a slow puncture, and the tailgate switch was knackered. On the...

P38 going up to the scrapper in the sky

Forgot about the rusty break lines. It was/is a 96 4.6 HSE 130,000miles with LPG, coil spring conversion, tow bracket/twin electrics. Very smooth gear change, no leaks (well, one small one from the sump) no over heating problems. Its going on Monday (early) for £800.00

P38 going up to the scrapper in the sky

The magic red flying armchair, AKA 96 4.6 HSE has tried my patience once too often. A sticking throttle cable was the latest in a long long list of little niggles. I dealt with air bags, EAS compressor, prop shaft, saggy headlining, sun roof rattles, rattleing windows, battery, battery drain...

    High revs

Hello again. I had a hell of a job finding an identical replacement air idle control valve but after fitting there is no change. However, I did notice that the sprung assembly that the throttle cable works was covered in gunge. So, out came the WD and after a bit of a scrub with a small paint...

    High revs

Hello. Well I've had the lot off including the aluminium flange thing that goes in to the manifold (a ring off holes) which the air idle valve seems to supply. Checked all the pipes/tubes for splits/cracks and tightness of joints. Had the Air idle valve appart and everything seems clean. I did...

    High revs

Hi, Yes it does drop back to normal after it warms up, but Im talking VERY warm (long after the temp gauge needle reaches normal straight up pos) Cant see any split pipes/tubes. Thanks for your advice. Will check it all again.

Thanks Wammers. Looked at it last time and it seems to be clean and fairly new looking. Any other ideas?

    High revs

Hi. Have a 98 p38 with LPG and having a problem with tickover speed on start up. It starts first time instantly no matter how cold it is but revs at about 2800 rpm in P or N. If I select R or D it drops to about 1200. When driving, if I have to stop I need to really push hard on the breaks or...

    Race on start up

Hi, My HSE 4.6 (97) starts first time every time hot or cold on petrol or gas. But, when it's cold the engine revs at about 2500rpm (sometimes more) in park. If I select drive or reverse it's a bit clunky and I have to press very hard on the brakes to stop it raceing off after releaseing the...

    Hesitant battery change

Hello again, Got a battery from my local car bits shop 740 cca for £87.00. Cant wait for delivery as I need to use it. No problems appart from had to reset windows and sunroof. (never been able to set the sun roof and still cant) Thanks for the advice gents. Just a point that Druim mentioned -...

    Hesitant battery change

Thanks for that gents. Think i can manage that. Will let you know how I get on. Have checked the RF lead and its already been dissconnected. I wonder why? Have looked on the net and battery prices seem to vary a lot depending on CCA. (and make of course) so what would be a reasonable CCA be...

    Hesitant battery change

Hi, My battery goes flat after about two days of none use and as there doesn't seem to be any reason for it (nothing left on and no lights showing) I think it may be at the end of its life. The only thing I have done recently is to change to coil springs. A very kind expert on here told me how...

Which TD5 is best for me?

My fault for asking a stupid question. Lets start again. Which Discovery would be best for me/us? Mostly only two people, but we do need 4 doors (grandchildren and bad backs) No heavy/bulky loads or towing. length not really important. Mostly town and country lanes.

Which TD5 is best for me?

I presume that's an "in" joke.

Which TD5 is best for me?

Hi, Been driving a 96 4.6 p38 HSE LPG for a few years but need to get something a tad bit smaller so the wife can also drive it. So, with about 4k in my pocket which TD5 is the best? Dont care about toys, dont care about sun roofs, sound systems, dont like leather, or complicated electronics...

EAS beeps are driving me mad

My grandaughter came up with a brilliant idea regards my christmas tree. Just blank them out with a black felt tip pen gramfer! Stupid girl. Now, where did I put that pen.

EAS beeps are driving me mad

The next time I'm contemplating a high speed chase, or a high speed anything I'll remember that. Meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy being able to just jump in the car, start it, and drive it. No waiting, no funny noises from compressors, no ups, no downs, no tilting, no light shows, just in, start...
