Series 3 Has anyone got a 2 1/4 diesel engine to spare?

Emissions tests are not an issue over here... believe it or not. Old Smoky is 42 years old, so all the MoT people do is to have a shufti at the exhaust (read: stare in disbelief) and then tick the "passed" box. Well, that is, the "emissions test passed" box. The remaining boxes are a different...

Da Tube might come in handy. Why not take a look at Steamwally's channel? Yes, it's a Series 2, but... it might give you inspiration and hope! Series 3 rewire Part 1 Series 3 rewire Part 2 Series 3 rewire Part 3 Series 3 rewire Part 4 Series 3 rewire Part 5

So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

Well, no, among Land Rover aficionados, I would be seen as perfectly normal. In the rest of the world, I would probably be seen as completely bonkers. Nor does it come with anything but dents and bruises... so, it stays with me. Well, it will stay with me once it comes back from the garage...

    FFR Direction Finder, or...?

So, I was trawling the interweb and found this. What are we looking at?

Series 3 Has anyone got a 2 1/4 diesel engine to spare?

If the guy still has it, he could always sell it to Turner. I would most certainly have paid the shipping, but I would have had it remanufactured in the UK first. As it happens, the cost of shipping it to Sweden isn't a financial nightmare, I think the crate might be more expensive than the...

So why does the engine-swap myth persist?

So far, Old Smoky (which is a 1977 88" truck cab diesel) has cost me a five digit sum to get it back to being roadworthy, including a complete engine swap (from a knackered 2,25 diesel to a refurbished ditto). And those five digits are in GBP, not Monopoly money. Crazy? Yeah. But I did not buy...

Series 3 Has anyone got a 2 1/4 diesel engine to spare?

So, I have ordered a new engine, read: remanufactured. Expensive? Yes. But I did not buy this car just to send it to the scrap yard... funnily enough, SWMBO thought it was a good idea to get Old Smoky a new engine. But, she has two horse-shaped financial black holes, so... ;)

Is it possible to make a Series hard top completely water tight?

Would it, by any chance, be the 3M Rubber and Vinyl Spray?

Series 3 Has anyone got a 2 1/4 diesel engine to spare?

I have no idea how much to offer, since I am only acting as some sort of go-between here. I would have to pass on your details to my garage, who'd get in touch with AB4x4 which, I assume. would be the ones making the offer. Should this be okay for you, feel free to PM me your contact details!

    Upgrading to halogen headlights?

I just replaced them. Well, my garage did... using the original loom.

    Upgrading to halogen headlights?

I got just that kit (well, this one) which is the LHD version). Together with new backing bowls, it was like going from a candlelit room to a fully lit Hollywood studio. So, good choice!

Rich, I might be interested in your old engine, see this thread.

Series 3 Has anyone got a 2 1/4 diesel engine to spare?

So, as I mentioned in this thread, I have a knackered engine. That is, Old Smoky does. I am now on the lookout for an engine to refurbish. My local Land Rover wizard, Ground Zero 4WD, has contacted several suppliers in the UK, and I thought I'd give them a helping hand. If anyone has a standard...

Bearmach side steps for series 3

So, I dug a bit more and found a crappy copy of the optional parts catalogue in my bookshelf. Here's a poor scan - but I think it might come in handy, because it is the actual thing, and not the rear step. Good luck!

Bearmach side steps for series 3

Page 9 of 50 in this document shows the rear step of a station wagon. The steps are, unless I am mistaken, the same thing except for the part where it bolts on to the chassis. So, you should be able to work out which bolts go where.

    The Defender replacement

So, this is probably the umpteenth time this subject comes up. I just wanted to let the forum know that Autoexpress very recently published a very interesting feature on the Defender replacement.
