    Stuck rings? Help!

the active ingredient in modern redex is just petrol. if you are gonna do it, go with diesel or thin engineers oil or something

Whats happened to the Landrover.net forum.

nicely spotted ! and now you mention and describe it perfectly there is actually a global setting for this in your personal settings > general settings called "default thread cutoff age"

    Part number please

well, just spit balling here. the early coil sprung land rovers did not have a seal between the half shaft and the axle tube. essentially making the rear hubs lubricated by the axle oil. the only thing stopping the axle oil going all over the floor down the outside of the wheels is a rubber...

    Stuck rings? Help!

regardless of how inconvenient it is for you, it wont fix itself. compression testers for diesel engines are quite specialist and expensive (due to compression ratio) i don't even think that's worth bothering with

    Part number please

do the coil sprung floating half shaft drive mumbers bolt to a series hub ? (or rather is the pcd bolt pattern the same ?) i also thought the coil sprung axles were longer than series, so their halfshafts would be too long ? anyways the coil spring outer circlip is 549473

    Discovery 300Tdi Off Roader

cracking job on the repairs. i know this is gonna sound a bit party pooper, but have used that brush on hammerite with waxoyl underseal stuff and its not a fantastic product for a top coat on bare steel. as its bitumen based it doesnt set, so can get washed off over the period of months. rust...

    Series 3 Best Security?

i have a disklok, battery kill switch, usually leave transfer box and overdrive in neutral. most of those will scupper the opportunist but organised crime will just lift the vehicle, so.... ?? we are living on borrowed time i guess

Series 3 Wrong engine should I tell the DVLA

obviously dvla are a fickle bunch, but you would hope they would see the logic in the fuel type and taxation class being no different, so would just hopefully change the engine no. and cc for you (if you want to tell them)

1982 Land Rover series 3 88" 2.3 petrol station wagon

huzaah! said Darren in march 2015, the gearbox was done and the landy was back on the road   in the end it had new primary pinion and first gear (because its got drive teeth for 4th inside it), new 2nd gear, new 3rd gear, plus all new baulk rings. bearings, seals, gaskets. oh and...

No MOT from May 20 2018

i worked out a 15% increase in power to weight would mean about 10bhp increase on a 2.3 petrol. 2.5NAD had 68horse. the wording is 15% increase in power to weight in excess of its original design. bit arbitrary? land rover fitted more powerful engines than my 70 horse 2.3. in any case i...

Me swivel pins are a bit wet!

in reality, not much. i wouldve said just refill with EP90 and let the UJ do the rest (centrifuge it around) but if water got in, then oil will get out, probably all over your driveway in the next 2 days. not an easy job for swivel seal replacement. which ever way you tackle it from you need...

    Aluminium Corrosion Treatment

excellent write up, thanks @discomania to answer the personal experience, its with SS bolts holding the sidelight and indicator (to the vehicle) and vapourising the wings. i've read about people using nylon nuts and bolts instead, which is excellent idea. for other areas i have made...

    Aluminium Corrosion Treatment

ok? then enlighten us. the difference in nobility determines the rate of corrosion. mild steel and aluminium are only 2 steps apart on the galvanic series. (and look how they got on) aluminium and 304 stainless (random example based on A2 bolts) are 26 steps apart. i agree though that...

    Aluminium Corrosion Treatment

just to pick up on a point stainless steel IS NOT safe on aluminium, they are miles apart (nearly opposite ends) of the galvanic table so will react very quickly and aggressively

Series 3 Gear Lever Snapped Off Whilst Driving

^ thats what i would do for a proper job. make a root gap on the actual stick, weld it, profile it back to round, sleeve it, weld it

    Series 3 Secondary Cabin Heater?

insulate before you generate ! admittedly i only have an 88 station wagon, but can get it to t-shirt weather in there. overhauled the heater box when i got the landy, new multicolumn matrix in there, fixed all the holes in the box, new foam seals between the matrix and box, new trunking...

Series 3 1983 Heystee disc brake conversion

what a ball ache. wont the pre 1980 rearmost hub bearing fit a post 1980 stub axle tube then ? i thought the only difference was that the hub was made bigger to allow larger outside diameter bearing p.s going back a step, there should be a felt washer behind the castle nut and washer at the...

Whats happened to the Landrover.net forum.

not very altruistic requiring recognition for donating anyway ! all i wanted was to see a moderation queue. every time a new person posts a thread it doesnt show up, has a little exclamation next to it. people used to make 3 or 4 posts because the first one didnt show up and the only way i...
