Thanks I'm busy with that now. I also just discovered that with the battery fully connected I get 3 volts between the neg terminal and the chassis. Sounds like a short yes?

Here one to fuddle your minds - don't even know where to start with this one. Spent the morning adding a few lights and 12v sockets to my 110 via an auxiliary fuse box and an isolator. All works lovely, so far so good. Bit later I notice my volt gauge showing just over 8 volts and sure enough...

Well I presume you took a pump off the 200tdi so if that had a spacer you can reuse it.

Although you might need the spacer in between the pump and block. If I remember correctly lift pump usually comes with the spacer but you don't use it on 12j and 19j engines.

you can disconnect the cable from the heater box under the bonnet and see if the lever will move then. If not the cable has rusted solid (unlikely) or if lever moves then your problem is is the heater box

Ain't it illegal to use roof mounted spots on the road? Something to do with them being behind front axle - can't remember exact details
