    Heater matrix 'Gurgling'

Well the fact that it clears is good - Mine didn't hence head gasket changed. I would change the thermostat and then bleed the system until you get hot air into the cabin through the heater whilst on tickover. This can take some time but stick with it!! T

    TD5 - Water in Filter

Yes they do play up by virtue of their location and the crud that ensues. Give it a good clean with Brake Cleaner / Electrical Solvent Cleaner / Isopropyl Alcohol or WD40 and see how you go. Otherwise a new sedimentor is around £20 TONY

    disco2 steering box

You can attempt to do the seals, but they are a PITA and there is no guarantee. If you are planning on keeping it for a while then changing it is the only real option. I got one from Paddocks, but there are others such as Adwest. I would avoid stop leak or adding brake fluid as this may stop...

£5K is mental for a 99 plate, but it's your money and all that. You should have stopped when the heater went cold and certainly when the temp guage went up - That's how head's get warped!! Do not put anything like Bars, Rad-Weld or K-Seal in your cooling system. It will **** your thermostat...
