    Disco 2 Starting Issue

Hi all. D2 TD5 Manual, 2001. Having not been used for six months, with all that wet and cold weather, tried to start Landy. WOW !! The engine turned and started immediately on key position 2, ie Should have been ignition only.... Also making an unusual noise from running engine, so switched off...

    Disco 2 Diff lock lamp

OK thanks folks for all the help. I can travel home to South Scotland in a couple of weeks, without worrying. Get to the bottom of the problem then. Cheers

    Disco 2 Diff lock lamp

OK you may be right. Even if my box has the mechanism inards, I presume there is no way it could be engaged if there is no mechanical selection lever ? Maybe a call to Landrover, with vehicle no's etc, might get me somewhere, but with the Disco now 16yrs old, I suspect they will not be too...

    Disco 2 Diff lock lamp

Hi, Good question. I have aways assumed that my Disco did not have "Diff lock". There is no manual selection for this. It has the selectable "hill descent control" HDC system and also the automatic "anti lock braking system" ABS. Both these work using the braking system if wheel spin is sensed...

    Disco 2 Diff lock lamp

Thanks for nice clear pic. I will give disconnecting the plug a go tomorrow. It's getting dark here anb bloody cold !!! Can you tell me which way the switch is meant to work. Eg If switch shorts or opens the two wires for the light to be on or off ?

    Disco 2 Diff lock lamp

OK. Jacked up front o/s. Engine off, handbrake on, gear in neutral. Wheel turns ok several revolutions, with a little effort, but turns just fine. Is it OK to drive home (300mls) with this Lamp still on ?

    Disco 2 Diff lock lamp

Hi, Thanks for getting back. With caravan disconnected, the light remains on. In fact it is now on all the time. No other lights stay on when ignition on checks have completed their time-out, and all other functions are normal when driving without caravan. Ie no "3 amigos" or any other problems...

    Disco 2 Diff lock lamp

Disco 2 td5 man, 2001 After a year not towing I coupled up my caravan. Checks all lights etc, all good. Climbed in Disco and was confronted by the "DIFF LOCK" indicator on. I had never ever seen this lamp on before! Driving seemed ok so towed van 300mls, with light continually on. Read to ceck...

    Engine dying after 10mins/miles

Update. Ok took disco for test drive yesterday. Absolutely fine for around 20 miles mixed driving. Then engine died on me. Purged fuel, lots of cranking, eventually started, limped home with a further 2 stops in 2 - 3 ml steps. Bull by the horns time !!! Started work to :- 1. Clean sensors, MAP...

    Engine dying after 10mins/miles

OK folks. I hear what you are saying in regard to Injector washers etc. Update. This morning, under bonnet, swapped over a few compatible relays, Lifted and reinserted most of the fuses (non were blown) and cleaned contacts for all these with Brake cleaner. Wiggled all the wiring to any sensors...

    Engine dying after 10mins/miles

OK. Tried priming/purging fuel as per manual. No change. Repeated a couple of times. No joy. Engine starts reasonable quickly after this but after approx. 8 mins, tickover goes rough for a second or two then engine stops. Priming seems to make starting a bit easier, but still needs around 10...

    Engine dying after 10mins/miles

Thanks for info. I have been priming as follows :- 1.Turn on ignition. 2. Immediately press accelerator pedal quickly 10 times. Pump then runs on and off for approx. 5 mins, with engine symbol coming on and off several times, along with occasional Water symbol flash. After 5 mins pump stops and...

    Engine dying after 10mins/miles

No. Does not seem to make much difference when I try to start it. A few days ago, during all this, it did start immediately I turned key, but afraid this was just a one off. I will prime the fuel lines again today and then leave overnight before trying to start tomorrow. Will report back here...

    Engine dying after 10mins/miles

Have tried running fuel bleed sequence before starting, but does not seem to help starting. Starting after cutting out takes a lot of effort from the starter and I always feel the battery is about to give up before it fires into life. Lots of cranking !!!

Disco 2 Starter tale of woe !!

Hi folks, Anyone with the dreaded "starter click only" problem, take note !! My Disco 2 TD5 2001, starter was playing up a few weeks ago. Got basic solenoid repair kit from www.reparkitsuk.com , (excellent service BTW) for £8. Got starter off, a real PITA, took me 2 hours. Anyway on inspecting...
