    Bottle jack??

I think it's a good idea to ask yourself some questions... What is it that the supplied jack doesn't do that you believe will be provided by a bottle jack? If it's just that the supplied jack is very slow, then a farm jack is probably a better choice since it'll provide the lift you'll need...

    What are them pipes there??

Thanks Griffdowg; leaning towards the Safari at the moment - don't really like the Southdown, bit flashy for me :) Paddocks seem to have a good deal on the Safari at the moment - £145 ex VAT which seems to be a lot less than many other sites. J

    What are them pipes there??

Thanks folks, useful info. I can't see us - intentionally - getting into anything that deep that'll need to extend the breathers further than the engine bay then, although to be fair, it seems like a pretty simple task to run them up the snorkel so it's a case of 'might as well while I'm here'...

    What are them pipes there??

Great, thanks. What sort of depth are we talking about when the standard breathers are likely to be compromised? Jon

    What are them pipes there??

In this months LRO there's a piccy of a raised air intake (cyclone type) fitted, but there are what looks like 4 blue plastic pipes cable tied to it and leading up to finish just beneath the cyclone. They're about 5-10mm I guess. What are they? Logic would suggest they're coming from other...

    Door lock not engaging properly

As I understand it, it is a common problem. The latch is very similar (may even be the same!) as the type fitted to MGBs and they were the same. The problem is that over time the bit that 'catches' the door on the B pillar moves. On the MG it was sometimes the door itself that moved as they...

    Brown trouser moment!

Did you drain the diff oil? I'd have thought it astonishingly unlikely that such a problem could occur within the unit and then 'fix' itself AND not produce shrapnel in the oil or any subsequent evidence of a problem. I'd be leaning towards Occam's Razor myself. The simplest solution is...

    Side step dilemma

Sliders sound like a good compromise - and have the added advantage of being protection for the sills which appeals to me having put a nice dent in a Disco sill some years back. Any recommendations for good ones/suppliers - especially bearing in mind the extra purpose of a 'step' (some seem to...

    Side step dilemma

We're about to buy a 110 that currently has no side steps and the missus needs a step ladder to get in. The dealer has offered to fit side steps for a good price but I'm worried that they'll get damaged/foul when off-road as they seem to 'hang in the air' beneath the sills. Is this a...

    Steering wobble

My 2001 1.8 Petrol has recently picked up a wobble through the steering. I originally thought this might have been simply wheel balancing but now, combined with a slight noise on turning, I'm thinking it's more likely to be a wheel bearing. Can anyone help with the following: 1) What's a...

Driver's window now a static feature

Thanks guys. I'll look into the switch and the relay. It has the 'feel' of something like that rather than anything major, but that could just be wishful thinking... Jon

Driver's window now a static feature

Got in the car the other day and went to put the window down and the missus said 'Oh yes, I forget to say, that doesn't work any more'. Just as well it wasn't the brakes. Checked the fuses and Lo! the fuse is blown. My God, I thought, a problem that's easy and cheap to solve, and God chuckled...

    Driver's seat

Thanks guys, I guess it could well be something that'll get better as I spend more time driving it. It's not a huge problem, just something that niggles a bit. J

    Driver's seat

I've been really quite pleasantly surprised at the amount of room inside our Freelander 1 but... I could do with the driver's seat going back another 3 inches or so. I'm 6' 3" and although the headroom is just OK, I find I'm a fraction too close to the steering wheel and my feet are landing too...

    Yet another HGF thread...

Thanks guys, sounds like I should be gearing up to tackle it meself then. I probably wouldn't even consider it if it weren't for the fact that there is so much room in there - it reminds me of an MGB bay! Right, off to do some searching for guides, etc... (later) Just found this guy on eBay...

    Yet another HGF thread...

We recently bought a FL1 1.8 GS - almost by accident as it happens - and have been really quite pleased with it. However on Saturday we got steam and loss of water and all the other symptoms. From reading this board, I'm not sure if I'm consoled that a head gasket failure is so common or...
