    Slipped cylinder liner??

I rebuilt my engine and it's making a tapping sound. Does this sound like a slipped cylinder liner? YouTube- Slipped cylinder liner? Thanks, Roger

    Trying to start after rebuild

My other car is a VW Passat, and the work truck is a Ford ranger, so both quite small & light. :) I try not to drive American cars if I can avoid it as they won't go around corners and are generally quite bland.

    Trying to start after rebuild

Thanks, yes. I got the brakes working although they're not quite right yet. I think I need to bleed them some more. I've never driven a Land Rover before. It's quite impressive. Didn't think 3 tons could handle like this. I figured it would be like driving a bus. Cheers, Roger

    Trying to start after rebuild

Well I've run it a few times now and the squeek has gone. :) I'm on to working on the brakes :) Engine sounds sweet. Thanks, Roger

    Trying to start after rebuild

Yay! I kept fiddling with the timing and it finally started.... YouTube- Land Rover first start But then developed a squeek. Anyone know what this noise might be?... doesn't sound good. YouTube- Land Rover squeek developed

    Trying to start after rebuild

1st try when I thought I figured the distributor was 180 out. Now that I watch the video it seems like it fired once or twice. YouTube- First attempt to start 3.9 rover v8 I tried this quite a few more times than the video shows. Here's after I rotated the distributor 180 degrees. YouTube-...

    Trying to start after rebuild

Hi, Thanks to all those who helped me figure out where everything goes. I'm done with the rebuild. Oil is flowing. coolant is full. I'm trying to start the engine, it's not firing at all. Just keeps turning over. I noticed that when I was cranking it there would be one spot every so often...

    Where do these go?

That's great, thanks. I've got it all hooked up now. Trying to start it. Appreciate the help. Thanks, Roger

    Where do these go?

Ok, I did a little experiment. I took the pipe loose that goes to the intake manifold (that is now hooked up where the small rad hose should go). I poured water into the radiator, and it came out of this hose that I had just unhooked. So it's definitely part of the cooling system. So I now know...

    Where do these go?

But you just showed me where the rad hose connects, and there's already a hose there. That means I have to take it loose to connect up the rad. So the question becomes, where does the new loose hose go to? Thanks, Roger

    Where do these go?

Ahhh, I see! Thank you. That means I've got another hose connected wrong. From your picture it looks like there should be a T piece between the left hand valve cover, and the top pipe that connects to the plenum. This should go straight down to the inlet manifold where the wrong hose is...

    Where do these go?

Thanks, I have got the fuel lines connected, sounds like I did that right. I got the header tank small pipe connected. So the other small radiator pipe goes to the plenum? Which connector on the plenum? Seems like quite a few pipes go there and I wanted to make sure it was right. Thanks, Roger

    Where do these go?

3.9 v8 I figured that there are two lines going to the fuel tank. One pumps the fuel forward to the engine and the other seems to return the fuel back to the tank, and as far as I can figure it, they both seem like they should attach to each side of the metal fuel line that connects to all the...

Rebuild - help tie up loose ends (pics)

Haha, good luck. I'm hoping to have my parts in to start 'er up this weekend too. Supposed to have a Saturday delivery of my upper rad hose and new coolant reservoir. Maybe I'll post a video of the first start. Thanks, Roger

    Where do these go?

Thanks, I found the pipe that goes to the expansion tank. There's a pipe coming up next to the fuel line which is of the same size. Is this the one that connects to the radiator here? Thanks, Roger

    Where do these go?

There are two pipes coming off of the radiator. Where do these go to? Thanks, Roger

    Rebuild crank engine

I did it! Guess it just took time to fill up stuff like the radiator etc. I kept adding oil, cranking for 10 seconds, adding oil. Eventually the light went out. WOOO HOOO!!! Now I just have to get the cooling system finished, and hook up the fuel and then I can fire her up! Thanks, Roger

    Rebuild crank engine

Well the pipes are connected up with new O rings. Still have an oil pressure light. Cranked it for 30 secs. The light never turned off. Thanks, Roger

    Rebuild crank engine

Well I tried cranking it again, this time gave it a good 15 second crank. Oil started coming out of the hose that goes to the radiator, because I hadn't done them up properly. So that's a good sign! I just went and got some O rings and some more oil. Will try again once I've got that fixed up...

Rebuild - help tie up loose ends (pics)

Heat shield? Are you talking about the one that goes over the starter motor? I haven't put mine on yet. Mine is kind of rusty, need a new one. Not sure which is the passenger side since I don't know which country you're in. Guessing England in which case the starter motor would be on the...
