    Galvanised chassis

Why haven't Land Rover used galvanised chassis on their production vehicles? Is it simply down to cost or are there other reasons?

    Rust !

Maybe I am missing something but... why didn't Land Rover just build their new Defenders on such chassis in the first place?

    XZL's tubed or tubless?

Thanks, I was thinking the same. Why do they still offer tubed tyres on the new vehicles? Are there any advantages over tubeless? Also, does anyone have experience with XZL's in the snow and colder temperatures and know why some websites list them as summer tyres?

    XZL's tubed or tubless?

According to their website, Land Rover currently fit tubless Latitude Cross tyres as standard on their new 110's and offer both tubed and tubeless XZL's as options for the steel wheels. I need to purchase a new set of tyres for my 110 and think the XZL's would be good but should I go for...

    Gear change advice

One more question came to mind: Any advice for operating the overdrive? What I should do, what I shouldn't do, what to look out for etc.

Thanks for that. So it is not required going up from 2nd to 3rd? I thought I read it was somewhere but could easily be mistaken.

Length of load space in Series II

How much useable length does the load space on a Series II hard top have when the door is closed? Not concerned about the width, just the length.

    Gear change advice

A great help, thanks for explaining! Just 2 more questions still... 1. Is the advice about not trying to shift into 1st gear unless at rest correct? 2. When you've been using 4 wheel drive Hi and want to return to 2 wheel drive, should the main gear stick be in neutral before moving the...

    Gear change advice

Cheers. But, I thought only a few very late Series IIA models and the Series III vehicles had fully synchronised gearboxes and most Series II's required double clutching in the lower gears as they only had the sync. between 3rd and 4th.

    Gear change advice

Thanks. Any advice on the double clutching procedure itself? I mean, use of pedals, revs etc when going up and down. Sorry, but I am completely new to this. Had a look online but didn't find anything specific to the Series II Land Rover. If I understand correctly, it is required when changing...

    Gear change advice

Read the sticky but I still have a couple of questions about changing gear in a Series IIA: 1. Does the gear stick have to be in the neutral position when changing between the hi and low boxes? (i.e. clutch in but still in gear is not sufficient) 2. Is starting off in 2nd gear when on...

    Series II alternator or dynamo?

I was just thinkng what the conversion would take and cost myself. Thanks for the replies by the way.

    Series II alternator or dynamo?

Title says it all really! Are Series II and Series IIA Land Rover electrics driven by an alternator or a dynamo? If both, as I suspect, did the change over take place on a specific year model, e.g. 1968?

    Restored Series II value

Thanks for the advice, it's good to start the search with some realistic numbers in mind. As tidy as possible but a working vehicle, not a museum piece.
