    looking for some tools

Have a look here. Sealy tools are very good, and quite cheap on this site. They deliver promply, and usually put freebies in too. On one order they ran out of "free footballs", so they appologised and gave me a free 3pc set of pliers!

    Hot gearbox

Oh joy! I started this thread hoping people were going to reply with "yeah, mine does that!". =)

    Hot gearbox

I have been woundering if it is ticking more in low gears, or if is just me being paranoid.

    Hot gearbox

I had the same thought about the fluids, so I changed them last month. This had no effect. It is a manual 300TDi built in 1996, and I have not towed anything with it.

    Hot gearbox

After driving for 30 minutes or so, my cubby starts to radiate the heat from the gearbox. Before this weekend my access panel was missing some bolts, and this allowed air to gust up into the cab. This air was so hot, at one point a friend and I thought the wagon must be on fire! Since...

    D3 TDV6 7 Seat

I drove a DIII at a Land Rover Experience centre. It slipped sideways down a grassy bank, which I had just seen a freelander make without a problem. I later took the same bank in a defender easily. In a 20 minute drive, it go stuck 3 times and fell down that bank (which I was going up in a...

    110 front prop shaft

It will be fine, since the prop is not there to wind the gearbox up. You will find the wagon is very sluggish and jittery.

    110 judder still

To check the prop and UJ's, get under the wagon and wobble them. If there is any movement at the joints, then you will need to replace the UJ's. If they feel fine, then it could be one of the props are not balanced correctly. You could try rotating them: - Mark the prop and output flange...

    Engine

The standard rubber hoses can flex when the turbo sucks for air, which reduces the diameter of the hose. This obviously means less air being drawn in. They also split over time, and are affected by oil. The silicon hoses do not flex as much, and last much longer.

    Changing springs/dampers on a 110

See this months LRO for a guide on how to do it.

Re: Polybush - Red or Blue

I have them too, and they are great. You can also get a hybrid kit, which have some red and some blue.

    cam belt

I was told (by a garage) that you are supposed to replace all the pulleys...etc. They said the kit for this was about £300 to purchase and there would be labour on top of that. Now, I know these people well, so I doubt they were trying to scare me into parting with the cash. Is there...

    How to replace bushes?

I have just put polybush all round on my 90, and they popped in place using only my hands! I got the Deflex kit from Paddocks, which was only just more expensive than the LR rubber items, and made the wagon feel like new. I agree that getting the old bushes out was a trial, especially since...

    TransferBox Broken

Sounds good. I check my UJs once a week for movement, and pump more grease into them at the same time. It only takes a few minutes, and ensures they stay in good nick.

    rear door wheel carrier

No problem. I have emailed Bearmach to ask what it is for, but I doubt I will get a reply. Since their kit did not include instructions or the correct bolts, I doubt they will bother to reply about my handle.

    rear door wheel carrier

Same thing, only mine is on a swing-away carrier. It looks as though yours helps locate your wheel onto the spokes...whereas my wheel is a good 3 inches from the handle. Here is a rubbish picture of the one I have: http://www.paddockspares.com/shop/pages/defender/accimages/ba132_2.jpg

    rear door wheel carrier

I have a bearmach item, and it has the same thing. Funnily enough I was playing with the carrier last night, since it was rattling. I tried taking the bolts which go behind the wheel off, so the wheel sat further back...but it still did not touch the handle. I thought perhaps the hole in the...

    TransferBox Broken

The "circular thing" is the transfer box output flange. You will firstly need to work out how\why this came off. To replace the flange and oil seal, drain the transfer box of oil (via the drain plug). Remove the prop-shaft. Remove the output flange. Inspect the flange for damage and replace...

    Tyre Pressures

Thanks for the replies. The front tyres are wearing on the inside. Last weekend I polybush'ed the vehicle (lovely job to have to do) but I need to get the tracking looked at.

    Tyre Pressures

My 300TDi 90 came with Compomotive XS alloys shod in 265/75R16 BFG All Terrains. Can anyone let me know what the tyre pressures on these should be? I have been setting them to the values a friend gave me, but I do have an odd wear pattern emerging. Any help would be appreciated.
