    "Select Neutral" AGAIN!

Ok, A bit more than the average OBDII cable on an auction site then! I'll get the multimeter out and test the switches on the motor from the ECU connector, that way testing the connection by the motor also. will post results later

    "Select Neutral" AGAIN!

Thanks for the quick reply Wammers I've found the section in RAVE and after a little reading, it is beginning to make sense. Is there a cheap diagnostic cable/software I could use to read these positions? (the EAS will need work within the next 18 months or so I reckon, so I dont mind spending...

    "Select Neutral" AGAIN!

Update 9/8/12 Pulled the motor and ECU, motor tested ok on a 12v battery - Opened ECU and there's no sign or smell of burnt components. How do you suggest I check the switches? (I assume you mean the switches in the motor) Shift switch on dash appears to be functioning, when I pushed it with...

    "Select Neutral" AGAIN!

I haven't had the boat out this year, all driving was done on roads. The motor hasn't been submerged. Sounded like the motor was shifting back and forward but at no time did it shift out of high range. I took the ecu out tonight and checked it - no signs of damage inside. Should I just...

    "Select Neutral" AGAIN!

Several months ago I replaced the ratio shift motor and the hi/lo ECU under the passenger seat in my 1995 RangeRover 2.5DT It performed faultlessly for about 250 miles (only gets occasional use) until earlier in the week when the dreaded message appeared back on the console while I was driving...

    Stuck in low range

So far so good.. got the ECU and motor fitted tonight, drove it out and down the road no problems. Noticed a small hole in one of the sills when I was underneath, so will get the garage to change the oils when they have it up on the ramp - too much like hassle trying to do it with a trolley...

HI and LOW Range shift motor ???

I had a similar problem, ended up replacing the motor and ECU (just one day I parked up in high then when I restarted the car was in low and wouldnt come out). Got a set of transistors to fit but then discovered a blown diode that I couldn't identify so to avoid risking blowing up the BECM I...

Ok, you have convinced me! I'll do that too. What sort of pump do you recommend for dispensing the oil?

    Stuck in low range

Thanks! Have ordered a motor and will change the oil while im at it.

    Stuck in low range

Wasn't aware the oil needed changing! - I've owned it 4 years and have done approx 8000 miles in that time, it's a workhorse for pulling my boat and trailers. Will try shifting into neutral / high and see what happens. Is it safe to drive it forward with the motor removed to check the...

    Stuck in low range

Thanks Druim One other thing I forgot to mention, when removing the motor I noticed that when I removed the bolts that the motor wanted to spring anti-clockwise (down) and to refit the bolts I would have to force it back up (clockwise) Is this normal?

    Stuck in low range

Thanks for the quick reply, and a fountain of knowledge as always! Motor is out, and is totally toasted. Could a failure in the transfer box cause this? When I opened the motor there was some foul smelling sticky brown watery type liquid (very like stale petrol) that leaked out...

    Stuck in low range

Just tried sorting this by removing the motor to test... damn am I sorry I started. Got the bolts out only to find the handbrake housing is in the way :( RAVE says, and I quote: 1. Raise vehicle on four post lift. 2. Disconnect battery negative lead. 3. Disconnect temperature sensor. 4...

    Stuck in low range

About 20 minutes before I had been using low range, shifted to high range then accidentally pressed the low range switch instead of the hazard warning lights switch - instantly I then pressed it again to go back to high (probably before the motor had finished it's travel to low). Perhaps this...

    Stuck in low range

50 miles from home, and with a trailer on the back of my P38A 2.5DT (Manual Transmission).. Stopped to unload the trailer, when I got back in and went to drive off the Range Rover was in low range. No matter what I tried it didn't make a difference. At one stage the message centre told me I...

In the process of doing mine, and noted how the belt came off It runs around the outside of the 4 outer pulleys and inside the centre two <edit> tried drawing an ASCII diagram but the formatting got lost in the forum software Difficult to explain, recommend you look it up on RAVE if you...

    P38 Remote receiver

Hi, my P38 has the old type RF receiver which causes the battery to drain every 2-3 days. I have been offered an ALR5020 secondhand... Is this the newer version? It doesn't match with ANY part numbers i've found on here, perhaps it's out of a non-uk model? Any ideas? Thanks! Pete

    P38 short in electrics

All sorted Battery was so flat that it was pulling a massive current from the charger when initially switched on. I didn't want to disconnect the battery because of the horror stories I have heard about BECM failures. I put an ammeter in line with the battery and have discovered a constant...

    P38 short in electrics

Hi A couple of days ago the battery went flat in my 1996 2.5DT Today I got around to getting an extension lead out and a charger attached, to my shock when I switched it on, the needle on the charger went to the back of the scale and the charger started making a very loud hum. I am...
