    Questions on my TD5

Just running in our new TD5 (yr2000) and got a couple of questions. Just spent half hour searching service intervals etc, but still non the wiser. Hand book says 12K engine oil intervals Haynes seems to be suggesting 6k What is the interval? Also I'm getting a bit of a hydraulic gurgling...

    Advice on disco purchase

Got a 2.4tdci defender basic no frills, easy to work on....Great! Dad looking at Discos to potentially replace his toyota. I know sod all about Discos other than they should be maintainable to similar ease and budget as defenders. However LRs ain't the most reliable and I hear discos have...

Brake failure on near new 90

Got to keep remembering to blow em back up again before setting off down the road with the trailer on as well. By the by just edited my first post. Realised it probably sounded like I'd been freewheeling 2 tone trailers down hills everywhere. Which of course I haven't only untrailered and...

Brake failure on near new 90

Yeah, already done that and they are a bit more forgiving for it. Gues you can't get away with being lazy with these tires. Got to keep the compressor at the ready and keep adjusting the pressures to suit the conditions.

Brake failure on near new 90

Ok fair enough. I promise I will try to get a little closser to perfection as well:) I will be out in the Landy later and with the snow and ice round ours at the mo, I can assure you I won't be relying on anything other than my gears to keep me on the straight and narrow. Though my new mud...

Brake failure on near new 90

So you follow everything the highway code tells you do you.....right:D Seriously though, I didn't see costing being such a big deal at the right time and place (Ie with no load or light load on the vehicle), but going off the comments on here ok maybe I'm wrong. I'm happy to take on positive...

Brake failure on near new 90

I would have hoped for a little more open mindedness and less abusivness on a forum like this. Yes of course you should use engine gearing where heavy loads and steep/slippy decents are needed. Agree whole hartedly. But the brakes arn't there for decoration. They should and do work perfectly...

Brake failure on near new 90

All very interesting and probably valid points. But all completely out of context, probably due to my discription. I said it was a steep hill but It wasn't realy that bad. I'm talking 30/40mph with a quick dab on the brakes at corners etc every so ofton down the way. I was wanting to go...

Brake failure on near new 90

Had a very scary moment in my basic (no abs) 90 yesterday when my brakes seemed to go to about 10% effort for no apparent reason. Had just done about 40 miles down the motorway with an unbraked trailer of no more than about 1/2 a tone gros with little braking and then about 2 miles on and of...

Sorry, I'm sure this question will have been asked before but I don't seem to be able to find anything specific to a 2.4/6 speed Servicing my 90 for the first time out of warrenty and was hoping somebody could give me a difinative list of parts needing oil and oils for: Gearbox (guessing...

Wider steel wheels for my 90

Thanks a lot for that. Might be tempted by some mud terains if not to overboard. What are the Kumhos like for wear. I was told that BFGs last a lot longer than the cheaper brands so work out better value in the long run? Also any idea what rim width my standard wheels are so I can...

    Rear door stay?

Tried the bit of wood option, but when your struggling to get a a stroppy ewe in the back (.....ok I Know, no comments neccessaary thanks) it tends to go flying at the crutial moment leaving you concust. Ohh well, guess I'll have to get the welder out and do another bit of head scratching?

    Defender Rear bumperss?

Decided to go with my idea. The step/winch idea sounds good, but a little over the top for what I need. Have a look and see what you think, but I've already found it worth it's weight in gold in just 1/2 a day. Its mounted close to the main chassis rails so it doesn't stress the...

    Rear door stay?

Also does anybody Know of any device to keep the $£"**$ rear door open? I'd forgoten how useless the spring is on the back door of the 90. Any thing other than perfectly flat or sloping towards the drivers side and the door won't stay open. Have to think which way round to park for the door...

    Defender Rear bumperss?

I've been kitting out our new Defender for use on the farm and wanting to keep it's shine protected for a little while at least I have been looking into bumpers and bullbars. I have already fitted a smart old bull bar on the front off a Range-Rover but I haven't been able to find what I want...

    Back to the best!

Hi to all I've been running a new 90 for the last few months preping it for the rigors of our farm before it takes over the rains from my dads hilux pickup. Its been a while since we had a Landrover and the last one we had was certainly a little less refined than this one, being a clapped out...
